Job Description:

Role Overview:
As Principal Transportation Engineer, you will lead technical project delivery, manage transportation projects, and contribute to the growth of the organization through business development and proposal writing. You will leverage your expertise in traffic analysis, transportation planning, and transit design to mentor team members and enhance the organization’s technical capacity in traffic engineering.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership:

  • Oversee the delivery of transportation projects, including traffic impact studies, corridor studies, intersection design, transit planning, and active transportation projects.
  • Provide technical expertise in traffic analysis using tools such as Synchro, SIDRA, VISSIM, and Arcady.
  • Ensure all project deliverables meet industry standards and client expectations through rigorous quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC).

Project Management:

  • Manage project scope, budgets, schedules, and resources to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Serve as the point of contact for clients, fostering strong relationships and ensuring alignment with objectives.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions for transportation challenges.

Business Development:

  • Actively identify opportunities for growth and develop strategies to expand the transportation practice.
  • Lead proposals, including crafting technical approaches, defining scopes, and estimating costs and schedules.
  • Represent the organization in meetings, events, and professional forums to strengthen market presence.

Mentorship and Capacity Building:

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level staff, fostering their professional growth and expertise.
  • Lead training initiatives to enhance the team’s proficiency in traffic analysis, modelling tools, and transportation planning methodologies.
  • Promote a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the team.

Performance Expectations:

  • Deliver high-quality technical solutions that address complex transportation challenges.
  • Successfully manage projects to meet deadlines, budgets, and client requirements.
  • Contribute to our growth by securing new opportunities and maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Build and maintain a motivated team capable of delivering innovative transportation solutions.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, standards, and emerging technologies to ensure the organization remains at the forefront of transportation engineering.

Key Competencies:

  • Expertise in traffic analysis, transportation planning, and transit design.  Software: Synchro, SIDRA, VISSIM, Arcady, and other traffic modelling tools. Familiarity with GIS tools and design software for transportation projects.
  • Strong project management skills, including resource allocation and stakeholder coordination.
  • Effective leadership and mentorship skills to support team growth and development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for client engagement and team collaboration.

Professional Credentials:

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in NS, NB, and NL.
