Principal Software Engineer – Customer Service Lending

Our squad’s purpose is to deliver cutting-edge digital tools and automations that empower lenders, associates, and relationship managers to grow CBA’s proprietary lending businesses. We also develop cross-cutting capabilities that serve multiple business units, so we deliver with scale and reusability in mind.
As a Principal Engineer, you’ll act as a Tech Lead guiding a small team of 3-4 Engineers. You will provide core technology and domain expertise to inform technical strategy be responsible for the design of the solutions for complex challenges within a business unit. You’ll have a strong risk mindset and take a security from the first line of code approach. Those around you to invest in their own engineering craft, as well as building class leading applications is something that you’ll be passionate about.
Key Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain robust backend and full-stack applications.
Monitor and optimise system performance for high availability and reliability.
Mentor junior engineers and conduct thorough code reviews.
Stay up to date with emerging technologies to enhance system architecture.
Develop new features and continuously improve existing ones.
Promote a collaborative, knowledge-sharing engineering culture.

Technical Skills
We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don’t expect you to know them all — but experience or exposure to some of these (or equivalents) will set you up for success:
Experience building scalable, high-performance, and secure APIs.
Solid experience building backend applications using .NET or similar languages (Java or Go).
Hands-on experience developing and scaling full-stack applications using modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks such as React, Next.js, Node.js, and NestJS.
Experience building cloud-native applications on AWS.
Familiarity with full-cycle engineering, including test automation (unit, integration, and end-to-end tests).
Proficiency with relational databases (SQL) and NoSQL databases such as AWS DocumentDB.
