WHAT YOU WILL DO:
As a Principal Network Engineer, you will serve as the subject matter expert and in-house advisor on complex networking challenges. You will lead teams in planning, forecasting, and implementing advanced network technologies, while playing a pivotal role in the design and engineering of network architecture. Your responsibilities will include evaluating new products, developing technical standards, and participating in enterprise-wide on-call rotations. You will troubleshoot and resolve high-complexity issues, lead enterprise-wide initiatives, and contribute to the continuous improvement of internal processes. Additionally, you will mentor junior engineers and provide expert guidance to management and technical committees.
This role requires approximately 80% remote work, with 20% on-site presence in our Philadelphia offices as needed.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead teams in planning, forecasting, and implementing complex network technologies.
- Design and engineer network architecture for enterprise environments.
- Evaluate new networking products and develop technical standards.
- Participate in enterprise-wide on-call rotation and lead troubleshooting efforts.
- Design and implement resolution scripts for network issues.
- Lead and contribute to enterprise-wide projects and initiatives.
- Maintain and expand knowledge of CHOP DTS network systems and industry trends.
- Mentor and coach Level I, II, and III network engineering staff.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on management task forces and committees.
- Provide feedback to improve corporate and departmental processes, including workflow, project management, and performance reviews.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in data networking and TCP/IP protocols.
- Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in LAN/WAN or management information systems.
- Experience in the design, configuration, and deployment of advanced VoIP solutions, including enterprise applications.
- Expert-level design experience in IP data/voice/video solutions, particularly in the healthcare industry.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to analyze and solve complex problems using analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
- Extensive knowledge of industry best practices in network architecture and engineering.
- Proficiency in routing and switching design and architecture.
- Solid experience with Data Center and high availability environments (HSRP, VRRP).
- Expert-level knowledge of switching technologies including CGMP, IGMP, 802.xx, Gigabit Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, VLAN/Trunking (802.1q), EtherChannel, Spanning Tree (STP), HSRP, VRRP.
- Extensive experience with optical transport design and architecture (DWDM, SONET w/APS, OC3–OC192, multiplexing/demultiplexing).
- Strong knowledge of IPv4 routing protocols (RIPv2, OSPF, BGP), QoS, rate limiting, IP addressing, subnetting, Ethernet standards, and 10GigE Ethernet technology.
- Experience with voice/video/data convergence technologies.
- Experience with Nortel switches and MLT/SMLT design and configuration.
- Proficiency in Cisco Load Balancer and Unix/Windows OS administration.
- Expert knowledge of network security systems and protocols including firewalls, Radius, TACACS+, IPSEC, IKE, SSH.
- Familiarity with enterprise network monitoring and management tools (SNMP, NetFlow), packet capturing tools, and automation tools.
- Understanding and compliance with enterprise and IS departmental information security policies and standards.
- Support for the integration of information security in the development and implementation of hospital technology resources.
- Commitment to compliance with state and federal regulations, healthcare accreditation standards, and data privacy requirements.
DESIRABLE CRITERIA:
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification.
- At least eight (8) years of experience in data networking.
- Experience with Cisco ACE, ASA, ACS, Cisco Unified Wireless Network (CUWN), and VMware vSwitch.
