Job Summary: This position is located in the Reserve Fleets, Office of Ship Operations, Office of the Deputy Associate Administrator for Federal Sealift, Office of the Associate Administrator for Strategic Sealift, Maritime Administration (MARAD).

Major Duties:

As a Preservation Servicer, you will: Preserve, maintain, and inspects vessel hull and topside coatings using tools and equipment for ship cleaning, coating, and maintenance, including scrapers, scalers, paint spray equipment, hand tools, and government-provided personal protective equipment (PPE) such as protective clothing, eye protection, and respirators. Operate various controls and levers to maneuver equipment, and lift, lower, adjust, engage, or disengage components or attached devices; attachments are designed to support the function of the equipment. Support topside housekeeping on non-retention vessels including sweeping and trash removal, deck maintenance and repair, including of exterior surfaces, surface preparation, and recoating of failed areas aboard retention vessels and Fleet service craft. Adhere to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements applied to the shipyard industry and implement Reserve Fleet Safety Rules. The ideal candidate should possess the skill set and ability to work with a crew of mechanics, riggers, and laborers assigned in two major programs aboard vessels in the National Defense Reserve Fleet (NDRF): deck and hull coating maintenance; and implementation of MARAD's Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP).

Qualifications: Qualifications for the position are based on the training, experience, or other requirements that determine which applicants would be able to perform satisfactorily in the position to be filled. To qualify for the WG-07, your experience should include experience equal or equivalent to the following: Ability to use tools and equipment used in ship cleaning, coating, and topside maintenance including scrapers, scalers, paint spray equipment, and hand tools. Ability to adhere to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements and shipyard safety practices. Ability to operate and control a variety of equipment including portable generators, air compressors, vacuum equipment, and personnel lifts.
