Job Description

Major/Essential Duties of Job:

Conduct research to understand biodiversity responses to global change within an ecometric framework. Develop and refine ecometric models to evaluate disequilibrium in trait–environment relationships across time and space. Analyze trait, fossil, and environmental datasets to assess climate tracking and climate fidelity. Collaborate with a large international research team to synthesize data and develop comparative models. Mentor and support graduate students conducting related research on fossil assemblages and ecological modeling. Participate in grant writing, manuscript preparation, and dissemination of research results through conferences and publications. Contribute to a collaborative, interdisciplinary research environment spanning Texas A&M University and the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Occasional Duties:

Assist in organizing workshops, meetings, and collaborative research activities. Contribute to public outreach and data-sharing initiatives related to biodiversity and conservation science. Support collaborative grant proposal development and reporting. Other duties as required.

Required Education and Experience: 

Ph.D. in Ecology, Biology, Earth Sciences, Paleontology, or a closely related field.

Some Experience conducting independent research involving quantitative data analysis, spatial modeling, or ecological/paleontological datasets.

Preferred Education and Experience: 

Ph.D. with emphasis in quantitative ecology, conservation biology, or paleobiology, with demonstrated integration of ecological and evolutionary methods.

Experience with trait-based ecology, ecometric or functional-trait modeling, or macroecological analyses. Experience with R, Python, or equivalent programming languages for statistical and spatial analyses. Experience working with large biodiversity or museum-based datasets. Prior participation in multi-institutional or collaborative research projects.

Required special knowledge, abilities, and skills: 

Ability to analyze complex datasets and synthesize multidisciplinary information.

Strong quantitative and statistical skills. Proficiency in R or similar statistical software. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work effectively in collaborative and interdisciplinary research teams. Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred special knowledge, abilities, and skills

Knowledge of vertebrate skeletal morphology (mammals and/or reptiles). Skills in database management and integration of large, multi-source datasets. Familiarity with GIS, phylogenetic, or modeling approaches for ecological and paleontological data.

Other requirements or other factors: 

Position requires collaboration and coordination across multiple institutions. Postdoc must be resident at Georgia Tech during the research period but appointed through Texas A&M University. Appointment is for nine months at TAMU, renewable for an additional 15 months at Georgia Tech.
