Overview:
The incumbent in this position will design and build experimental setups for studying gas hydrate formation and dissociation. Using these setups, they will conduct experimental studies involving hydrate formation and dissociation in the presence of promoters or inhibitors. These experimental studies will provide evidence for our molecular observations of enhanced hydrate-based gas storage on our ongoing DOE-funded gas hydrate project. The experimental setup will also support our newly funded NSF project that involve conducting hydrogen hydrate formation experiments. The incumbent in this position will assist with writing reports for our DOE CO2 gas hydrate grant and/or papers to be published regarding the research project.
Job duties:
Design and build experimental setups for studying gas hydrate formation and dissociation. Using these setups, conduct experimental studies involving hydrate formation and dissociation in the presence of promoters or inhibitors, as well as ice formation in the presence of different antifreeze molecules or proteins.
Train graduate students in the research group on the above experimental studies, as well as the drafting of high-quality journal manuscripts based on the results of these studies.
Work with graduate students in the group on the high-resolution imaging of gas hydrates, ice, and rock samples using spectroscopic imaging techniques available at the LSU shared imaging facilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engr, Chemical Engr or related degree with 1 year of experience. Specific experience: Strong experience in designing and building gas hydrate experimental setups.
Preferred Qualifications for Postdoctoral Researcher:
PhD in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engr, Chemical Engr or related degree with 1 year of experience. Specific experience: Strong experience in designing and building gas hydrate experimental setups. Preference will be given to candidates who have published journal manuscripts on experimental studies of gas hydrate formation/dissociation.
