Job Title:

Post Doctoral Scholar

Department:

CCC | Sponsored Research

Postdoctoral Fellow in Metabolism and Cancer

Description: We are seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic Ph.D. or MD scientists to join our group as postdoctoral research fellows.

Position Description:

The Sen Lab invites applications for a postdoctoral research fellow position in cancer metabolism. Our research aims to define metabolic vulnerabilities in lung cancer and their impact on tumor progression and therapy resistance. This position is supported by a newly funded NIH grant.

The candidate will apply state-of-the-art metabolic profiling techniques, including mass spectrometry-based metabolomics, isotope tracing, and lipidomics, to dissect metabolic rewiring in lung cancer. The research will integrate patient-derived models, organoids, and in vivo tumor models.

Lab Focus:

The Sen Lab focuses on the development of new treatment paradigms for clinically relevant molecular subsets of lung cancer, the leading cause of cancer mortality. Situated Comprehensive Cancer Center at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, the Sen Lab takes an interdisciplinary approach to studying basic mechanisms and biological principles of tumor pathogenesis with a focus on lung cancer. We aim to elucidate the fundamental principles of cancer initiation, progression, and therapeutic response and resistance and to translate these findings to improve patient outcomes.

The overall goal of this research program—spanning basic mechanistic discoveries, application of high-throughput technologies, validation in cancer-relevant mouse models, and translation platforms—is to understand the fundamental principles driving tumor progression, including both cancer cell-intrinsic signaling and contributions from the tumor microenvironment, to improve therapy and survival outcomes in lung cancer patients.

What You’ll Do:

  • Conduct independent research on cancer metabolism and therapeutic targeting
  • Utilize stable isotope tracing and metabolomics to investigate metabolic dependencies
  • Perform experiments in genetically engineered mouse models of lung cancer
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams within and beyond home institution
  • Collaborate with bioinformaticians and clinicians for translational studies
  • Write scientific manuscripts describing research findings
  • Attend national and international meetings to present research findings, learn about the latest advances in the field, and develop a scientific network
  • Apply for fellowships and grants
  • Mentor junior scientists

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or MD/Ph.D. in biochemistry, cancer biology, or metabolism
  • Expertise in mass spectrometry, lipidomics, and metabolic flux analysis
  • Established experience with animal models is mandatory
  • Strong publication record, including at least two publication outputs in the last three years, with the applicant as the principal author of at least one publication
  • Self-motivation and a curiosity-driven mindset
  • Prior postdoctoral experience is not required
  • Requires successful completion of a background check.
  • The selected candidate may be requested to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen.
