About the Role

The Team Lead, Platform Operations role is a unique opportunity to both stabilize existing accountabilities (infrastructure, app support, file transfer workflows) and drive modernization (automation, infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, observability). This position will focus on providing clarity, structure, and coaching for their teams while ensuring delivery of business-critical operations. This team underpins critical client-facing processes, from managed file transfer to compliance and print workflows, handling thousands of files daily and supporting key enterprise applications.

The successful candidate will be hands-on, technically credible, and highly collaborative — balancing current legacy support (roughly 70%) with a forward-looking roadmap to increase automation and modern practices over time.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and grow the platform operations team, fostering accountability, clear communication, and continuous learning.
  • Provide infrastructure support for enterprise applications (IIS, Tomcat, MFT, internal services, etc.) across both Linux and Windows environments.
  • Oversee and modernize high-volume client data transfer workflows (20,000+ files/day), ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and resilience in business-critical order processing pipelines.
  • Diagnose and resolve production incidents across infrastructure, applications, and data workflows — balancing quick recovery with root-cause analysis and long-term fixes.
  • Balance planned work with unplanned operational interrupts, introducing structure and visibility so that short-term incidents don’t derail long-term improvements.
  • Implement structured ways of working, including agile planning, capacity tracking, and Jira/project board usage, to increase visibility and predictability.
  • Drive adoption of automation and Infrastructure-as-Code practices to reduce reliance on manual processes.
  • Partner with SRE/DevOps peers on CI/CD, observability, and security initiatives to align with organizational standards and practices.
  • Contribute to roadmap planning, helping shift the team’s mix from legacy support toward modernization.

Requirements

  • Proven leadership experience in IT Operations, Platform Engineering, or SRE, with strong coaching and mentoring skills.
  • Technical credibility: hands-on background in infrastructure and application support (Windows/Linux, web/app servers, managed file transfer, scripting/automation).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and hybrid environments.
  • Experience balancing operational accountabilities with modernization initiatives.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to handle both day-to-day incidents and long-term improvements.
  • Excellent communication skills — able to provide clarity, check in regularly, and collaborate across technical and business teams.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience introducing agile practices and work-tracking discipline in ops-heavy environments.
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code and automation tooling (Terraform, Puppet, Octopus Deploy, etc.).
  • Exposure to observability platforms (Splunk, Datadog, or similar) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience supporting high-volume, business-critical workflows in regulated industries.
  • Comfortable balancing “hands-on troubleshooting” with “strategic modernization.”
