Job Summary

The inpatient pharmacy technician supports pharmacists in providing pharmacy services. The technician is responsible for packaging, preparation, and distribution of medications, inventory control, customer service and maintaining pharmacy records.

A caregiver in this position will work day and evening shifts. The schedule includes working every other weekend and two holidays per year.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding.  

  • Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner. 

  • Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.  

  • Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations. 

  • Document regulatory requirements, including temperature logs, scheduled activities and training.  

  • Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.  

  • Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   

  • High School Diploma/GED   

  • Six months of related experience OR completion of a Pharmacy Technician Program   

  • Upon hire, you must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA).  

  • In addition to the above requirement, upon hire, it is required to hold an active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Trainee   

  • Please note: Caregivers with active Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Registered Pharmacy Technician registrations are required to update their registration to a Certified Pharmacy Technician registration with the OBOP within 6 months 

  • Understanding of algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds    

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:    

  • Six months of hospital experience
