Job Summary: Responsible for supporting the execution of fuel supply strategies to satisfy the Company’s total requirements for fuel supply and economic trading including uninterrupted supply and competitive cost of gasoline, diesel, and ethanol. This includes managing purchases via truck, pipeline, barge and cargo; contract negotiation; relationships with suppliers; the required administrative processes, developing Petroleum Supply Department and Corporate personnel in requisite skills and management and execution of approved economic trade strategies. The position is responsible for the execution of a forward 3-5 year plan for both the supply and operations requirements to enable the Company’s long range plan growth. This also includes setting a strategic plan for fuel supply in new and existing markets to ensure continued improvement in the security and economic performance of the fuel supply network.

Principal Duties:

  • Serve as the primary Petroleum Trader for a geographic trading area which involves taking ultimate responsibility for all aspects of fuel supply in that region with a primary goal of supplying the retail system at a discount to the OPIS low price and meeting established profit targets in the long range plan. Supply would be sourced through bulk, term contracts and on a spot basis.
  • Develop and execute a 3-5 year forward supply plan across a specific geographic region anticipating changes to the supply demand balance within that market.
  • Develop and execute profitable speculative trading strategies as part of a yearly economic trading budget. Manage the risk associated with these strategies to an appropriate level to remain within the parameters set by the Wawa Risk Management Policy.
  • Manage the hedging program for a specific geographic market and as part of a team responsible for the overall hedging program for fuel supply. Ensure that trading stays within the appropriate limits set by the Risk Management Policy.
  • Establish and strengthen industry relationships and supplier networks.
  • Work closely with the Fuel supply leadership team to maximize short-term profit opportunity.
  • Responsible for fulfilling yearly EPA reporting requirements.
  • Manage and execute trade strategies to optimize various terminal positions. Negotiate with Midstream infrastructure providers for leases on assets necessary to support fuel supply including terminal positions, barges and pipeline allocation.
  • Manage and optimize spot and term rack purchase program.
  • Develop third-party gasoline and ethanol exchanges or sales across the portfolio to optimize terminal assets, bulk inventories and profit opportunities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related business field preferred, Master’s degree a plus
  • Proven experience in Petroleum supply and trading
  • Demonstrated success in managing high-value transactions under volatile market conditions
  • Demonstrated analytical, Excel, database, specialized applications and internet applications skills
  • Leadership experience preferred
  • Experience with hedging/trading strategies and risk modeling tools
