We are currently hiring a People Services & Leaves Advisor based in our Head Office in Burnaby 

 

As a People Services & Leaves Advisor, you’ll play a key role in supporting the delivery of exceptional people services support and leading BCAA’s leave of absence programs. In this role, you’ll support and enhance People & Culture programs across the organization, including employee relations, documentation, and project coordination. As a subject matter expert in disability and leave management, you’ll also lead all aspects of short and long-term disability, WCB, and parental leaves, promoting a collaborative, customer-focused approach that supports prevention, early intervention, and successful return-to-work practices.

In this hybrid role, you’ll support employee relations and manage leaves and accommodations as part of a collaborative People & Culture team focused on partnership and service excellence.

What you’ll do: 

  • Provide HR advisory support to People Services Managers on matters such as accommodations, investigations, grievances, and performance management. 

  • Contribute to department-wide People & Culture initiatives and projects that enhance engagement, inclusion, and the employee experience. 

  • Lead BCAA’s leave of absence, disability management and accommodation programs, including short-term disability, long-term disability, WCB, and other statutory or personal leaves. 

  • Manage leave cases proactively and in compliance with policy, legislation, and collective agreements, ensuring timely and compassionate service delivery. 

  • Serve as the key contact for employees, leaders, and vendors, providing expert advice and guidance through all stages of leave and return-to-work processes. 

  • Partner with payroll, benefits, and insurance providers to ensure accuracy in claims, payments, and related system entries. 

  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and innovation in leave and people services processes, ensuring best practice and operational efficiency. 

  • Educate and coach leaders on People & Culture practices, programs, and support through tailored communications and training. 

  • Monitor legislative updates and industry trends, applying insights to strengthen disability management and people practices. 

 

What you bring: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field (or an equivalent combination of education and experience). 

  • 3–5 years of progressive HR experience with exposure to disability and leave management, employee relations, and generalist responsibilities. 

  • CPHR designation or Human Resources certification preferred. 

  • Strong understanding of HR policies, procedures, and legislation related to employee relations and leaves of absence and return-to-work programs. 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to listen empathetically, respond with professionalism, and build trust across all levels. 

  • Demonstrated discretion, tact, and diplomacy in managing sensitive or confidential employee information. 

  • Strong organizational, project management, and analytical skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities accurately and efficiently. 

  • Innovative, proactive, and detail-oriented, with a focus on process improvement and collaboration. 

  • Bonus Skills: 

  • Experience working in a unionized environment. 

  • Workplace Mental Health and/or Wellness training. 

  • Familiarity with HRIS platforms (Workday experience an asset).

The salary range for this position is $75,363.00 to $94,203.84 and is determined via job-related knowledge, skills, experience, certifications, market demand and internal equity. In addition to base salary and BCAA benefits, this position is eligible for a performance bonus target of 9%, with the opportunity to earn up to 15%.  

 

Please note that this is a hybrid role based out of our Burnaby, BC office (3 on-site / 2 remote days). Applicants who are not located within commuting distance of our Head Office or are not looking to relocate to the Greater Vancouver/Lower Mainland/Fraser Valley region will not be considered.
