About the role

A full-time 12-month fixed-term Payroll Specialist position has become available at AGL. Based in Sydney, the Payroll Specialist supports the day-to-day execution and delivery of all payroll operational activities for assigned payroll areas. Key to success will be the ability to facilitate high quality payroll outcomes by following processes that are consistent, predictable, and productive.

You will be part of the Payroll team responsible for servicing over 4,000 employees across 5 different payroll areas and 3 different payroll cycles, with multiple EBA and superannuation arrangements using integrated payroll, time & attendance and HCM solutions.

What You’ll Be Doing
 

  • Ensure accurate and timely payment of all entitlements provided through Payroll by reviewing payroll results to confirm payroll details, and statutory and taxation obligations are correct

  • Safeguard integrity of payroll outcomes by preparing data inputs

  • Support annual and/or year-end processes by assisting with the STP reconciliation and annual remuneration reviews and/or wage increases including annual incentive payments

  • For assigned emails provide effective and reliable customer service to employees and business partners (especially P&C, HSE and Finance) within agreed timeframes

  • Solve operational queries by analysing pay results for issue resolution and query management, ensuring that payroll critical issues are escalated as appropriate

  • Identify, recommend and implement continuous improvement initiatives across payroll and exception time management in partnership with both internal and external stakeholders, and the broader Payroll team

  • Assist with testing for resolution of operational system issues and implementation of payroll changes for new business or statutory requirements
     

What You’ll Bring
 

  • Good understanding of end-to-end payroll processes and procedures, including from new starter to termination, year-end reconciliations, and financial postings

  • Effective communication at all levels, both written and verbal, including documentation of payroll procedures

  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving abilities, together with a solution-focused outlook

  • Good skill level with Microsoft Excel with a high level of numeracy and detail orientated

  • Working knowledge with multiple payrolls with both white and blue collar workforces

  • ERP payroll system experience, ideally with offshore/outsourced providers, highly regarded

  • Good understanding of employment tax obligations (including SG, PAYG and Payroll Tax) and industrial instruments, awards, leave and NES in relation to payroll

  • Basic working knowledge of different Superannuation schemes and arrangements
