How You Will Contribute:
 
You will be joining a team of optical designers working on the development, implementation, and validation of 3rd party optical transceivers for use in Ciena products. Responsibilities of the position include investigation of emerging pluggable optics solutions, leading the introduction of new pluggable modules, and managing the life cycle of these products. 

  • Under the mentorship of a senior designer, you will be accountable for the qualification of optical transceiver modules.
  • You will be part of evaluating transceivers against industry and Ciena specifications to determine if the vendors solution meet the requirements.
  • You will ensure thorough lab validation that the selected transceiver meets the requirements and the measured results align with results provided by the vendor.
  • You will support the broader Ciena team (HW, SW, Product Verification) as modules are tested with circuit pack HW and SW.
  • You will play a key role in the documentation of functional specifications, test plans and reports and be a key member approving new optical transceivers.
  • Interact with Ciena design teams and suppliers to resolve key issues.

The Must Haves:

  • Degree in Electrical, Optical, Computer or Engineering Physics or equivalent.
  • Ability to work on site in office and lab typically 5 days a week

 Assets:

  • Understand basic concepts in optics, such as lasers, optical fibers, insertion loss.
  • Experience with optical transceivers.
  • Experience with optical and electrical test measurement, e.g. BERT, sampling/real time scope, optical/electrical spectrum analyzer, VNA, and lab skills
  • Experience with hands-on lab measurement techniques, automation e.g. Matlab, Python, LabView.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
