Job Summary
The position will assist the Curriculum Manager with the development, coordination, maintenance and expansion of Indigenous Cultural Safety (ICS) curriculum for UBC health professional programs. The successful candidate will be a valued and integral member of our team as we work towards meeting organizational, institutional and national goals in response to UBC’s Indigenous Strategic Plan, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Calls to Action and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).
The UBC 23 24 Indigenous Cultural Safety (ICS) learning experience is intended to prepare the next generation of health care professionals to provide quality culturally safe care to Indigenous peoples. It is a foundational learning experience for students to learn about Indigenous cultural safety and cultural humility, to hear from Indigenous people through videos and in-person workshops, to learn about Indigenous history and the legacy of colonization in Canada, and to learn more about Indigenous people’s health and relationship with Canada’s healthcare system. These curricula are implemented as required components of 13 UBC Health programs and will be expanding to include additional learner groups such as graduate and PhD level students, residents and clinical fellow, faculty and staff.
Providing support and mentorship to the next generation of students who will be working in the field of Indigenous Health is central to the goals of CEIH and vital to building and sustaining this important work for years to come.
Organizational Status
The UBC Centre for Excellence in Indigenous Health (CEIH) provides a single coordinating point for Indigenous health initiatives within UBC and is a contact for community organizations external to UBC. The CEIH works together with Indigenous leadership to improve wellness, health care, and patient outcomes, and will advance the health of Indigenous people through innovative thinking, research, and education. The CEIH is located in the School of Population and Public Health (SPPH), Faculty of Medicine.
The CEIH strives towards actively decolonizing and Indigenizing all of its internal and external processes including; applying collaborative and strength based leadership models; taking equity based approaches to disrupting power and privilege imbalances; ensuring safe spaces are created to foster meaningful dialogue amongst team members; ensuring diverse Indigenous community perspectives and voices are centred in all activities; valuing individual team member’s voices for unique strengths, gifts and perspectives and; ensuring that relationship based approaches are centred in all the we do.
Work Performed
Assist with the development, maintenance and expansion of UBC 23 24 ICS program:
Administration Coordination:
Systems:
Create new operating systems for expansion of UBC 23 24 to new learner groups
Assist in forecasting systems and operational upgrades needed for the expansion of the program
Maintain, make changes and ensure full functionality of Learning Management System (LMS) which houses our curriculum
Supports learners with issues accessing online modules
Runs moderator trainings and create supporting educational materials
Operations
Assist in the recruitment, vetting and coordination of facilitators
Assist with managing budgets related to the program
Draft briefing notes, proposals and status reports on various project components as needed
Responsible for operating project management software and spreadsheets
Responsible for helping manage timelines and deliverables associated with various projects and their planning
Participate in strategic planning activities as needed
Liaise with UBC units to ensure compliance with copyright and UBC policies
Collaborate with Curriculum and Facilitation Coordinator to create promotional materials, social media content and updates the UBC 23 24 website
Run moderator trainings and create supporting training materials
Maintain and update the UBC 23 24 operations manual
Provides general administrative support as necessary
Support in the coordination of community engagement and collaboration meetings
Coordinate and help maintain various advisories and working groups that will support the expansion of the curriculum
Supports the expansion and maintenance of the facilitator network
Research and Evaluation:
Assist in coordinating feedback collection and compiling reports
Assist in coordinating community engagement and events related to evaluation and collation of findings
Support UBC 23 24 in coordinating various components of affiliated research projects as needed

Errors in judgment may lead to delayed results, conflict situations and reflect poorly on the Centre, the School, the Faculty of Medicine and the University.
The incumbent is expected to display conduct in accordance with the, UBC Statement on Respectful Environment for Students, Faculty and Staff. The Co-Director(s) may need to intercede in order to resume a productive working relationship. Generally, most errors can be rectified.
This position will be responsible for access, collection, use and disclosure of personal information in accordance with the BC Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (RSBC 1996) and other UBC privacy and security policies. This position requires employees to work under strict confidentiality requirements; internal procedures and policies to protect personal information must be followed and adherence to these requirements will be regularly reviewed by the employer.

Minimum Qualifications
University degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of two years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in the fields of Indigenous health, Indigenous studies, Indigenous Cultural Safety or a related field and have at least 2-years of related work experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience, knowledge and interest working with Indigenous people and communities, following protocols for engagement and building relationships is required. The successful candidate will also have the ability to be both tactful and respectful during cross cultural dialogues regarding race, privilege and inequity.
As this position is largely focused on coordinating the maintenance and expansion of UBC 23 24, the individual must: have experience contributing to or developing educational programming such as curriculum and workshops; have experience facilitating and/or presenting; be highly organized and have the ability to prioritize and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines; have experience managing and creating operational tracking systems; have experience processing invoices and keeping track of budgets; have the ability to effectively use the Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel) and WordPress at an intermediate to advanced level; be highly attentive to detail and have strong critical thinking, verbal and written communication skills; have Indigenous research experience; be adept at navigating social media and updating web-based platforms and; have the ability to take initiative.
Working independently and as part of a team, exercising a high level of tact and diplomacy and navigating interpersonal challenges in a good way with support of leadership are considered highly valued assets to the CEIH.
