Operational Risk Analyst, Officer - State Street Investment Management

The Operational Risk Analyst (“Risk Analyst”)  will provide independent second line risk oversight and support the deployment operational risk programs to  the Japan office of State Street Investment Management (IM). Reporting directly to the Global Head of Operational Risk, State Street IM, the Risk Analyst will assist the regional operational risk team to provide risk advice to local management and ensure effective identification, measurement, control and management of operational risks. The Risk Analyst will work closely with the APAC Head of Operational Risk, State Street IM, to ensure risks are prudently managed for the region.

The State Street IM Enterprise Risk Management team consists of over 70 risk professionals located in various locations across US, EMEA, and APAC. As a combined group, we are responsible for identification, assessment, control and reporting of risk in five main areas: operational, investment, liquidity, credit, and model risk.

What you will be responsible for

As a Risk Analyst in State Street IM Japan, your  responsibilities will include:

  • Support the Regional Head of Operational Risk in developing, managing and executing the overall operational risk management programs of IM’s business functions to ensure effective identification, measurement, control and management of risks
  • Ensure operational risk programs address all corporate and local requirements, collaborating with all lines of defense as appropriate
  • Monitor changes in the risk profile and partner with the business to address evolving risks
  • Provide independent oversight, monitoring and challenge of business activities
  • Chair or participate as appropriate in business unit-wide, site or regional committees and serve in local and regional committees to review and oversee relevant risk management and compliance issues; ensure that relevant risk-related management information is produced and reviewed at appropriate intervals
  • Work closely with Management to establish an appropriate risk management culture throughout the business and promote a culture of effective challenge. Maintain effective communication and collaborative channels with all key business leaders within IM, APAC
  • Provide strategic oversight to business line development through identification of key risk issues and trends
  • Identify solutions for complex risk issues by promoting close collaboration with other risk teams and the business
  • Deliver risk management presentations to relevant internal and external stakeholders/ clients
  • Report regularly to site and regional committees, and any site or legal entity boards, with appropriate, timely and relevant information so that the committees and boards can discharge their responsibilities effectively
  • Maintain the highest standards of conduct and integrity and ensure compliance with accepted local internal rules, company policies, industry practice, statute and regulatory requirements

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • University degree preferably in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or a related discipline
  • Minimum 6 years' experience in risk management, audit or related field at an investment management firm, or financial services company   
  • Good knowledge of industry best practice, together with relevant fund management, dealing and distribution practices
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written, to be able to communicate effectively in a clear and concise manner with all relevant stakeholders. Ability to speak, read and write Japanese and English fluently
