Job Summary: The Whole health supervisory reports to PMRS Clinical manager. He/She practices independently, using professional judgment and expertise to make decisions about services and treatment provided to Veterans and their significant others/family members. Incumbent is given authority to make his/her own work assignments within the program area to which assigned.

Major Duties:

The VAPORHCS PMRS Whole Health Supervisor duties are: Clinical Supervision - 1.The Supervisor is charged with providing direct supervision for Whole Health clinical staff to include; Physical Therapists, Physical Therapy Assistants, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Nurses, Psychologists, Social Workers, Peer Supports, Chiropractors, and Recreational Therapists.. 2.The Supervisor, under the leadership of the PMRS Clinical Manager: a. Develops and evaluates goals and analyzes workload to ensure maximal clinician productivity and efficiencies are maintained. b. Ensures equitable distribution and balance of workload among clinicians. c. Develops sufficient knowledge of each clinician's duties, skills, and work environment to effectively manage. d. Sets coverage plans to optimize patient care and efficiently utilize resources. e. Uses data reports to determine required resources for completion of clinical workload. Administrative oversight - 1) Is fully educated in all policies and institutional goals as related to delivery of Whole Health services at VAPORHCS and, working with the PM&RS leadership team, ensures all national and local mandates and directives related to PMRS Whole Health care are met. 2) Is responsible for ensuring that adequate space and supplies are available for clinicians to safely and competently provide Whole Health services. 3) Is responsible for ensuring encounters, stop codes, note titles and other measures for capturing and reporting workload and productivity are optimized. 4) Assists in the development of department policies and procedures. 5) Participates in JC/CARF accreditation efforts as related to Whole Health and prepares reports and meets all required deadlines to maintain accreditation. 6) Monitors Medallia and/or other Veteran satisfaction reports to ensure that PMRS Whole Health meets or exceed the needs of customers while supporting VA Mission. Whole Health Expertise - 1) Develops broad experience and education of general and specific Whole Health best clinical practices and current research. 2) Attends local and national training events as directed by Clinical Manager PMRS 3) Provides education of Whole Health practices and principles to health professionals and their trainees. 4) Liaisons with local and national Whole Health experts to maintain expertise in Whole Health. 5) Participates in institutional committees and teams to provide Whole Health expertise for the benefit of the facility. Direct patient care - 1. Provides direct patient care as assigned delivering clinical services according to program requirements. 2. Screens patients and reviews plans of care for Whole Health services for; appropriateness, types of services and delivery of services internally and through Community Care program. 3. Independently develops and implements Whole Health treatments using judgment to modify treatments because of changing medical conditions. 4. Assists interdisciplinary treatment teams in the coordination of optimal care for Veterans receiving Whole Health services. 5. Seeks discipline specific input on professional matters pertinent to subordinates of a different rehabilitation discipline.??????? Qualifications: Basic Requirements: The authority to set requirements is provided by 38 U.S.C. § 7402(b)(14). Citizenship. Be a citizen of the United States. (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with 38 U.S.C. § 7407(a)). Education and/or Experience. The individual must meet at least one of the following requirements below: (a) Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy and two (2) years of experience as an occupational therapist; NOTE: The baccalaureate degree must be from an approved program prior to the AOTA January 1, 2005 decision that the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) would only accredit master or doctoral degree programs in occupational therapy. OR (b) Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy and two (2) full years of graduate education in a related field; NOTE: The baccalaureate degree must be from an approved program prior to the AOTA January 1, 2005 decision that ACOTE would only accredit master or doctoral degree programs in occupational therapy. OR (c) Master's Degree or higher in occupational therapy. Individuals must be a graduate of] a degree program in occupational therapy approved by the ACOTE or predecessor organizations. This is inclusive of an internship (supervised fieldwork experience required by the educational institution). ACOTE is the only accreditation agency recognized by the United States Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. Box 31220, Bethesda, MD 20824-1220 Certification. Candidates must possess a current NBCOT certification as an OT. State Licensure. Candidates must possess] a full, current, and unrestricted state license , to practice occupational therapy in a state, territory or Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia. Physical Requirements. See VA Directive and Handbook 5019. English Proficiency. [Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f). Grade Determinations: Supervisory Occupational Therapist, GS-13 (1) Education, Experience, and Licensure. Completion of one year of experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level and directly related to the position being filled (2) Demonstrated KSAs. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: (a) Ability to balance multiple responsibilities, set priorities, delegate tasks, meet multiple deadlines, analyze organizational problems, and develop and implement effective solutions. (b) Ability to analyze organizational and operational problems to develop and implement solutions that result in efficient operations and use data effectively to manage workload, quality performance, and productivity within the service. (c) Skill in dealing with employees, team leaders, and managers to include conflict resolution. (d) Ability to utilize evidence-based practices and clinical practice guidelines in a professional area and to guide the staff in applying these tools. (3) Assignment. Supervisory OTs at this level are generally found at complex facilities. The supervisory occupational therapist is responsible for the supervision, administrative management and direction of the occupational therapy program in an OT section or equivalent work group. They have oversight for planning and directing the staff assignments in a variety of clinical settings. The supervisory OT provides a Veteran/client centered environment while enhancing staff engagement. Typical duties include: assigning work; monitoring clinical performance; resolving staff conflicts; identifying continuing education and training needs; and preparing performance standards and ratings. They interview candidates for positions; recommend appointments, advancements, or when appropriate, disciplinary actions; administer leave; and coordinate staffing needs.
