Occupational Health & Hygiene Specialist

Melbourne Full time

Want to bring ideas to life?

You’re in the right place. If you’re looking for a fresh challenge, why choose Aurecon? It comes down to one, crucial question. What kind of world do you want to create for the next generation? Truth is, the decisions being made right now will determine the future of everything – from the local community to the entire planet. One of those decisions is: who do you decide to work for?

How will your ideas contribute to shaping what’s next?

We’re seeking an Occupational Health & Hygiene Specialist to help shape the future of workplace health across Aurecon’s operations in Australia, New Zealand and Asia. This is a newly created role - an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in a self-directed, field-based environment and is passionate about improving long-term health outcomes for people in complex project settings.

You’ll play a key role in embedding occupational hygiene into the way we work - partnering with operational and project teams to identify risks, influence behaviours, and implement practical, risk-based solutions. From airborne contaminants and noise to ergonomics and psychosocial hazards, you’ll be exposed to a wide variety of challenges and environments, requiring both technical expertise and innovative thinking.

Here are the key things you will do to ‘bring ideas to life’:

  • Deliver technical expertise in occupational hygiene and health surveillance programs, tailored to the exposure risk profiles of various project environments.
  • Engage directly with operational and project teams through regular site visits, providing practical guidance and coaching on occupational health risk management.
  • Identify, assess, and support the control of occupational exposures, including noise, airborne contaminants, ergonomics, psychosocial hazards, and other health risks.
  • Establish and enhance data management systems to ensure hygiene data is captured, stored, and accessible for long-term health risk monitoring and compliance.
  • Influence and educate stakeholders on occupational hygiene practices, regulatory obligations, and risk mitigation strategies across diverse regions and legislative contexts.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and continuous improvement, helping to evolve Aurecon’s occupational health approach and embed it into broader HSE systems and governance.

What we’re looking for:

  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in occupational health and hygiene, with strong technical capabilities.
  • Proven ability to engage and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders including HSE teams, Project Managers, and People Managers across diverse regions and regulatory environments.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations, systems, and processes, with practical experience in delivering occupational hygiene programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal, emotional intelligence, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • A proactive, curious mindset with a problem-solving approach and the ability to work both independently and as part of a broader team.
  • Personal drive, results-orientation, and the ability to role model Aurecon’s values and behaviours.
