Description:

The engineer will develop the complete automated electrical test and calibration solution for new products developed by the Ciena Wavelogic Coherent Optical solutions R&D teams. The engineer will be responsible for the test flow through the life-cycle of the product, from initial Alpha PCBs/product release right through deployment to contract manufacturers and high volume ramping  

Design:

  • Develop software sequences and algorithms for testing of product electrical PCBs.  Circuits tested include power circuits, digital buses, datapaths up to 112Gbps, and analog control circuits (frequency and time domain)
  • Work with the Ciena R&D community to understand design requirements, specifications and test parameters
  • Interpretation of design schematics to resolve method test algorithms and sequences
  • Design test station configuration and control based on requirements of the product
  • Provide Design for Manufacturing analysis to H/W design teams
  • Provide software and drivers for vendor and NPI developed hardware to implement the test solution.  Examples are DMMs, Oscilloscopes, SMUs and function generators as well as vendor specific device programmers
  • Document test procedures for internal and external use

 

Analysis:

  • Use internal Data and Analytics tools to understand test parameters and test limits
  • Provide feedback to R&D teams regarding circuit operation and target specifications
  • Supervise all solutions that have been developed for repeatability and reliability
  • Make automated test adjustments based on all analysis 
  • Analyze circuit schematics and layout to understand test procedures required

 

Support:

  • Provide test coverage for initial products developed by and deployed to the Ciena R&D community
  • Scale the test solution and provide support through product introduction
  • Work with local and international Contract Manufacturers to deploy test solutions
  • Support these contract Manufacturers throughout ramp up of production 

 

Software Skills:

  • Detailed understanding and experience in coding C#, C, Python and Matlab
  • Understanding of Linux and Linux tool development
  • Scripting with various command-line interpreters (Linux and Windows based)

 

Hardware Skills:

  • Reading and understanding schematics and layouts
  • Understanding and implementing data protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, 1-wire and SGMII.
  • Understanding of analog circuit controls for electro-optical components
  • Detailed understanding and testing of serdes protocols and lane metrics up to 112Gbps PAM4 and beyond 
  • Probing and debugging PCBs in the lab
  • Detailed understanding of lab equipment (DMMs, SMUs, Oscilloscopes, Spectrum Analyzers, Network Analyzers)
  • In-circuit device programming using C2 interface, PMBUS, UART, etc.

 

General skills:

  • Ability to gather requirements across various teams and provide complete test solution
  • Organize and drive meetings across various teams to gather requirements and present solutions
  • Strong interpersonal skills to enable test solution deployment across many sites
  • Engage in detailed problem solving  
  • Strength in explaining test solution and instructions to technicians and operators
  • lab and office work

 

Experience:

  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering
  • preferably proven experience in NPI

 

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
