About the job:
The MRI Patient Coordinator is responsible to function under the direct and indirect supervision of MRI technologists to provide assistance throughout the entire MRI process to patients and staff. Works cooperatively with MRI Technologists, Registration, Scheduling, Radiologists, RN, and Physicians to provide assistance and coordination wherever warranted. Assists Technologists in coordinating the patient schedule, including add-ons. Receives patients and assists with obtaining histories and adequately prepping patients for their examination. Coordinates prior studies and chart notes and assembles information in coherent ways to promote throughput and excellent communication of the department.
What you will do:
Review patient's charts/requisitions and results from previous procedures, records patients' medical information and explain the procedure to be performed on the patient using laymen terms, care, courtesy and tact.
Review schedules for completeness, appropriateness and familiarize self with details of upcoming scheduled patients. Follow up to inform necessary staff of unusual circumstances or details of upcoming scheduled patients.
Coordinate/call/fax for outside studies and chart notes on advanced scheduled out-patients and in-patients to be present for scheduled scans, as needed.
Thoroughly confirm patient appointments prior to scheduled appointment, taking the necessary time to verify all required confirmation information and courteously answer patient inquiries to assure total patient safety and readiness for scanning process.
Assist patients with the registration process and obtain thorough billing information.
Coordinate transportation of in-patients from floor to hospital-based MRI department through IP/ER/OBS units or hospitals RIS transport scheduling system.
Assist the technologist and nursing staff as needed.
