To perform work in a variety of trades required for the maintenance, repair, and operation of the Microelectronics Research (MER) facilities and equipment. Responsible for daily safety and cleanliness inspections of the facility. Participates in emergency response. Supports the Facility Manager where needed.
Assists the MER facility manager in daily building operations including supporting renovations, equipment installation, preventative maintenance repair of laboratory and building equipment, and ensures site safety, including site cleanliness
Conducts daily laboratory walks, safety inspections and support to laboratory researchers, troubleshoot, repair and assists in the setup of equipment.
Provides building support services in the areas of: emergency preparedness protocol; safety standards, including weekly building and site safety/cleanliness walks; space inventory and maintenance of space records; building access via electronic management systems and serve as a point of contact for access issues
Maintains building equipment owned by MER
Supports the building's shipping and receiving area, distributes critical packages; and serves as a backup liaison in support of the building operations
Coordinates and manages CSE inventory records, inspection, storing of electronic and mechanical components, supplies, and equipment. Maintains a high degree of safety and security according to UT protocols.
Interfaces with UT Austin's Facilities Services, Environmental Health and Safety, Fire Protective services, contractors, vendors, etc. Coordinates work orders with Planning Design and Construction Services and various UT services shops.
Serves as backup liaison with Environmental Health and Safety, Custodial Services, UTPD, and Emergency Management. Serve on the MER safety committee and help ensure compliance with safety standards and a member of the building Emergency response Team.
Serve on the Building wide Emergency Response Team (SCBA) and participates in gas monitoring after-hours, on-call rotation over weekends and holidays in the event of an Emergency.
Performs other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Four years of experience in building operations and infrastructure, commercial equipment maintenance including electrical and mechanical systems, knowledge of construction standards, maintenance, and has a technical aptitude.
Demonstrated ability to exercise sound business decisions effectively and in a timely manner, while focusing on strategic objectives within the organization objectives.
Demonstrated excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize work.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work effectively under pressure, maintain composure, and establish strong professional working relationships with students, faculty, staff, outside vendors and contractors.
Completion of UT Austin's Environmental Health and Safety training on lab operations and safety training within two months from the date of hire.
SCBA self-contained breathing apparatus for emergency responders.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
More than five years’ experience working with gas cylinders, chemicals, electrical components, plumbing, and plumbing systems.
Experience with Honeywell gas detection, Siemens and Antech controls, Phillips lighting, Aircuity systems, and compressed gas distribution.
Working knowledge of or familiarity with inventory procedures and business systems.
Working knowledge of University systems such as WORKS, FMRS, Define, and BACS.
$60,000 + depending on qualifications
