The Role:

As the Vehicle Dynamics Metric Development Engineer you will be responsible for development of methods and metrics to support Vision 2025.   The candidate should be versed in Vehicle Dynamics and/or Chassis systems and be able to assess vehicles subjectively and objectively for performance.  The candidate will be required to work with the Vehicle Dynamics Data Manager, VPOs, VDDV, test engineers, and technicians.   In this role, the candidate will work on both hardware and simulation projects that establish metrics and processes to assess Vehicle Dynamics.    The candidate will be required to establish test plans, schedule testing/ride evaluations, work with VDDV analysts and mine data from multiple sources.   The candidate will also be required to create process methods and metrics from data collected, with the goal of implementing them in virtual tools.   The candidate should have an understanding of Vehicle Dynamics VDDV capabilities, processing tools and programming tools such as Matlab, Visual Basic and Excel.

Work requires an understanding of engineering concepts.  The candidate will need the ability to work with limited direction and independently, as well as make decisions based on general practices and procedures. This activity includes creativity and initiative while independently solving problems and working with multi-functional teams. The candidate will need to exercise independent judgement and creative solution development with minimal direction from EGM.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Leadership of projects for Vehicle Dynamics metric development
  • Responsible for growth of vehicle metrics and collaborating with VDDV on analysis tools and methods
  • Utilization of various tools to assess Vehicle Dynamics (e.g. Hardware, XiL, 8 Post, VHF/VIMF, simulation, etc.)
  • Ability to use assess data and calculate metrics (primality MATLAB, but other tools can be used to “brainstorm”)
  • Knowledge of how to parse various forms of data (SQL, Excel, .csv, .dat, .txt, etc.)
  • Keeps VPOs, Manager & Director informed of assignment status, timing, and technical issues
  • Independently creates/manages project plans
  • Takes initiative to make efficiency improvements
  • Documents work completed with attention to detail
  • Makes recommendations based on work completed
  • Good communication of technical topics
  • Available to assist and communicate with the other Regions
  • Stays ahead of current product developments and trends in area of responsibility
  • Actively identifies new areas for learning and takes advantage of learning opportunities
  • Ensures high quality, on time completion of tasks

Your Skills & Abilities (Required qualifications):

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in automotive industry
  • Vehicle Dynamics and/or Chassis Release experience
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • DFSS Green Belt (Black Belt Preferred)
  • Experience with programming, including MATLAB, Excel and Visual Basic
  • Basic understanding of vehicles and dynamics and chassis systems
