The Role: Messaging Architect
The Team: The OSTTRA Technology team is composed of Capital Markets Technology professionals, who build, support and protect the applications that operate our network. Key Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and manage a team of messaging administrators, fostering their technical growth and ensuring high standards of operational excellence.
Serve as a key technical point of contact for clients, providing exceptional customer service and clear communication on messaging-related projects, requirements, and issues.
Collaborate closely with internal development, infrastructure, and business teams, acting as the lead technical consultant to help design and deliver integrated messaging solutions.
Design and architect robust, scalable, and secure messaging solutions to meet business and technology requirements.
Champion FinOps principles within the messaging domain, taking ownership of cloud cost management and optimization. This includes analyzing spend, forecasting budget needs, and architecting solutions that balance performance, resilience, and financial efficiency.
Act as the ultimate subject matter expert for High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions, including OS-level and MQ-level clustering (e.g., multi-instance QMs), defining and advising on best practices for platform resilience.
Oversee and implement robust messaging security using SSL/TLS, including the full lifecycle of certificate management.
Serve as the hands-on technical expert for the configuration, optimization, and deployment of middleware messaging services across Windows and Linux server environments, both on-premises and in the cloud.
Provide final-tier, expert-level troubleshooting for the most complex IBM MQ problems to ensure platform stability and guide the team on rapid issue resolution.
Design and implement a comprehensive monitoring and alerting strategy using Grafana, including the development of insightful operational dashboards.
Drive the modernization of the platform, championing and directing the automation of processes such as backups, restores, and DR testing.
Act as the primary technical liaison between internal technology teams and vendors, managing vendor support and strategic product discussions.
Requirements:
A minimum of 12 years of experience in middleware and messaging systems.
Proven experience in a leadership, mentorship, or management role, with the ability to guide a technical team.
Expert-level knowledge in the architecture, design, and administration of IBM MQ solutions on Windows and Linux platforms.
In-depth, hands-on experience with HA solutions, including OS-level clustering and native MQ clustering (e.g., multi-instance).
Demonstrable experience with IBM MQ deployments in AWS, with a proven ability to evaluate and select optimal storage solutions based on performance, resilience, and cost requirements.
Exceptional hands-on implementation and problem-solving skills, with the ability to step in and lead by example.
The following skills are highly advantageous:
Experience with FIX and SWIFT messaging services.
Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
Experience with deploying solutions in containers (K8s)
Strong scripting skills (e.g., Python, Shell) for driving automation initiatives.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to engage effectively with clients and technical teams. Must demonstrate a strong customer service orientation, operate with autonomy, and show unwavering commitment to project deliverables, budget performance, and customer satisfaction.
