Job Description

Position Summary:

The Medical Services Liaison and Counselor provides information and assistance to injured workers, employers, medical providers, and insurance professionals regarding the Oklahoma Workers’ Compensation system. This position leads efforts to recruit, engage, and support treating physicians and Independent Medical Examiners (IMEs), helping expand access to quality medical care for injured workers. The role includes in-person and virtual outreach to providers, basic billing guidance, and coordination with internal staff to support provider participation. Occasional travel to provider offices is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Stakeholder Assistance

  • Respond to inquiries from injured workers, employers, attorneys, insurers, and medical providers.
  • Provide plain-language explanations of Commission processes and workers’ compensation requirements.
  • Use the Commission’s case management system (CaseOK) to research and support inquiries.

2. Provider Network Development and Support

  • Identify, recruit, and support treating physicians and Independent Medical Examiners (IMEs), targeting high-need specialties and underserved areas.
  • Conduct in-person and virtual outreach to promote participation and explain program benefits.
  • Serve as the primary Commission contact for provider questions on billing and the Medical Fee Schedule, referring complex issues to the medical fee schedule consultant.
  • Secure participation documents and track credentials and provider data.

3. Education and Engagement

  • Organize and deliver training or hands-on instruction for providers unfamiliar with the workers’ compensation system or billing requirements.
  • Develop and update materials to support provider engagement.
  • Assist with broader educational and outreach efforts led by the Commission.

4. Program Tracking and Reporting

  • Maintain a current database of medical providers and prospective providers.
  • Track recruitment, retention, provider satisfaction, and scheduling metrics.
  • Generate reports for internal and external use.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in workers’ compensation, provider relations, or healthcare administration
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. One year of relevant experience may substitute for one year of education.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Ability to work independently and interact with diverse stakeholders
  • Valid Oklahoma driver’s license and ability to travel in-state
  • Familiarity with Oklahoma workers’ compensation system and statutes
  • Experience in medical billing, provider recruitment, and credentialing
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and scheduling systems
  • An active insurance adjuster license would be a bonus, but not a requirement.

Work Environment and Conditions:

  • Primarily office-based with regular phone and computer use
  • Occasional statewide or regional travel to provider offices (mileage reimbursed)
  • Light physical effort, may include lifting up to 25 lbs.
