Job Summary
The Medical Director (Nurse Practitioner) serves as a senior occupational health leader within the company’s Health Services organization and will be responsible for overseeing occupational health service strategy and delivery across designated business units and geographic regions. This role blends clinical expertise, administrative leadership, and strategic oversight to ensure high-quality, compliant, and efficient healthcare delivery for ConocoPhillips employees. The individual will play an important role in safeguarding workplace health, ensuring regulatory compliance, and advancing the company’s global health and wellness strategy.
Position Overview
Your responsibilities may include:
- Lead the development, execution, and continuous improvement of regional occupational health strategies, aligning resources with business objectives
- Serve as trusted advisor to regional business leaders on medical, occupational, and public health issues impacting workforce productivity, business risk, and operational performance
- Recruit, mentor, and provide professional oversight to medical and nursing personnel. Ensure high performance standards, continuous education, and consistent application of evidence-based practice
- Collaborate with HSE, HR, and operations to identify and mitigate workforce health risks, ensuring proactive management of fitness-for-duty, infectious disease, and workplace exposure concerns
- Lead medical vendor management, internal audits, and quality assurance of occupational health services
- Design and implement programs to enhance employee health, resilience, and productivity, integrating preventive health and behavioral wellness into company culture
- Provide senior oversight for complex medical case reviews, surveillance programs, and medical clearance for employees in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements
- Maintain accurate medical records and ensure data privacy compliance
- Provide on-call availability for critical health events and emergent decision support as required
Basic/Required:
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Active Texas Nurse Practitioner license (APRN, FNP, ANP)
- NIOSH Spirometry, CAOHC Audiometry, and alcohol & drug testing certifications
- 10 or more years of progressive occupational or corporate health experience
- 5 or more years in leadership roles within high-risk industries (oil & gas, manufacturing, aviation, or energy preferred)
Preferred:
- Demonstrated experience in regulatory compliance (OSHA, DOT, Coast Guard, etc), assessing health-related risks, fitness-for-duty & return-to-work determinations
- Travel health and immunization experience preferred
- Intermediate level of knowledge in using electronic health records
- Proven success leading occupational health teams and managing complex stakeholder environments
- Strong analytical, operational, and communication skills
- Listens actively and invites new ideas for shared understanding, then influences and acts to drive positive performance and achieve results
- Builds positive relationships based on trust and seeks collaboration across organizational boundaries to achieve goals
- Takes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments by holding others accountable and standing up for what's right
- Builds effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical
