About the role

The purpose of this role is to lead the delivery of Medical & Scientific Affairs (M&SA) excellence and provide dynamic leadership within the Southern Europe BU R&D organization by supporting product maintenance/stewardship and innovation through effective deployment of M&SA resources and Medical Compliance/Governance standards across Haleon’s business.
 

This role will work closely with the SE BU M&SA Lead to establish and execute the local M&SA strategy and ensure delivery of short term and long-term medical goals and objectives.
 

This position will work closely with the SE M&SA Lead to ensure delivery of annual local medical goals and objectives. The M&SA Senior Specialist incorporates strong strategic and operational capabilities, including managing the medical and scientific activities for local portfolio to meet consumer expectations. These include review of promotional materials, claims innovation, product medical information, new data generation, innovation, and regulatory interactions. 

In  addition,  the  M&SA  Senior  Specialist will  ensure  the  local  team  builds  and manages the medical and scientific ecosystem by actively engaging with external groups and individuals, such as External Experts, Government Agencies, Boards of Health, Health Care Practitioners, and Health Care Organizations.
To  ensure  alignment  in  meeting  the  commercial  and  scientific  objectives  for  the  product portfolio, the M&SA  Senior Specialist must form collegial and collaborative relationships with cross-functional colleagues within Haleon including GSM Leads, EMEA-LATAM R&D colleagues and Local commercial & Innovation Leads among other functions as R&D functions and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide technical and operational support to the SE BU M&SA team with oversight of the M&SA Lead
  • Develop and provide scientific input in new business development opportunities, regulatory submissions and other business challenges e.g. benefit risk evaluations, medical assessments (including innovations for local stars, claims innovation, promotional material review, Medical Information, Pharmacovigilance, and partner with clinical development) to ensure best practice achievement of business objectives.• With oversight from Medical Affairs Lead, drive medical communication and publication strategy in alignment with assigned therapeutic categories (ie. VMS, Pain, Respiratory, Oral care). Drive effective collaboration between R&D, Governance and Commercial functions;
  • Interact and understand the external environment to be up to date on the latest science related to the categories
  • Interact with external expert for science exchange and gaining new insights. Actively Monitor and engage with the external environment (external experts, agencies, societies, and organizations) to be a credible ambassador for Haleon, to help inform Haleon activities and to help achieve business objectives
  • Based on clinical data and published literature, propose new claims for Haleon products with a special focus on local stars and drive profit brands and in collaboration with the respective therapeutic category (for global Brands)
  • Support defense of Haleon products from challenges from competitors and provide medical substantiation support to challenge competitors’ claims
  • Manage medical innovation and product stewardship activities and provide medical contributions for Risk assessments and Safety Labelling events as needed
  • Support in simplification and drive effective ways of working across the area of influence

Success in this role, through collaboration with category Medical & Scientific Affairs, SE BU R&D colleagues, other regional R&D functions and Senior business colleagues, will ensure effective and consistent application of medical support and Governance in all relevant Haleon activities to help achievement business objectives.

Qualifications and skills

  • Degree in Biomedical Science (may be acceptable)
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in pharmaceuticals industry, preferably in a OTC/Consumer Healthcare FMCG Industry of International repute, with broad experience in Medical & Scientific Affairs. With a successful track record of product responsibility through the commercialization process.
  • Knowledge and understanding of consumer needs and attitudes, customer groups, and opinion leaders.
  • Medical & Scientific Affairs with strong business acumen.
  • Experience in clinical development would be a plus.
