Summary (About this Position):
The Aptiv North America Connection Systems team has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Product Engineer within the device portfolio at our Technical Center located in Warren, OH. The successful candidate will work on device side electrical connections that can be used on traditional engines, transmissions and brake controllers. In addition there are multiple projects that are being designed for tomorrow’s autonomous vehicles; such as, short range and mid-range radar, LIDAR, as well as, cameras and video displays.
Your Role (i.e. Key Job Responsibilities):
Develop and design robust device connection systems
Manage the implementation of new product designs from concept through production - coordinate with CAD, Supply Chain, Suppliers, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, etc.
Establish, document and adhere to project schedule
Ensure customer deliverables are met (prototypes, pilots, production trial run parts, etc.)
Meet customer quality and timing requirements
Direct the validation and testing of new product designs - ensure performance to requirements
Analyze problems, develop and implement solutions
Ensure thorough design reviews throughout the product design cycle using analytical tools, development testing, prototypes, multi-disciplined teams, etc.
Prepare and deliver design analysis reports including DFMEA, FEA and tolerance stacks
Provide engineering support for tooling, process, manufacturing and SQA activities
Maintain professional and responsive customer contact
Ensure compliance with customer specific requirements
Some travel may be required to customer locations and/or Aptiv plants
Your Required Background (i.e. Must Haves):
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
Prior experience in design of injection molded, rubber, sheet metal and cast metal components, with a general knowledge of the manufacturing process for each
Prior experience in effectively using analysis tools to predict and correct potential problems in the virtual environment
Demonstrate general CAD skills to open, manipulate, assemble, and make minor modifications to 3D component models
Prior experience in applying GD&T dimensioning and performing tolerance stacks
Your Preferred Background (i.e. Nice to Haves):
Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Business
Proficient in CAD
Problem solving certification or training
Demonstrated ability to lead projects, directing the activity of multiple support organizations and ensuring timely completion of deliverables
Capable of working independently and motivating others
Ability to generate innovative and cost effective design solutions
Demonstrate general knowledge of device (header) connections
Ability to effectively prepare and deliver technical presentations to customers
Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Project, Excel, Outlook, Skype, Visio, etc.)
Ability to work effectively with people at all levels in an organization
Strong results-orientation and execution characteristics
Excellent oral and written communication skills with a strong ability to work with a team
Ability to effectively organize, prioritize and accomplish multiple conflicting tasks, make intelligent, timely decisions and solve problems independently
