Job Description
The Ultra Engineering function manages a portfolio of specialist capabilities, generating highly differentiated solutions and products by applying electronic, mechanical, and software technologies in demanding and critical environments to meet customer needs.
The Ultra Mechanical Engineering function designs, analyzes, and maintains mechanical components and systems to meet specified requirements and standards. Develops solutions and solves simple problems to deliver engineering projects on-time, on-quality, and on-budget. Conducts prototype testing to evaluate the performance, reliability, and safety of mechanical systems and collects and analyzes data for improvements. May carry out duties off-site as required based on project need.
This role, Mechanical Engineer I, will primarily focus on Mechanical Design and CAD including processing Engineering Change Requests within SolidWorks parametric models and accompanying prints. A professional at this grade uses established procedures to solve problems by making judgments and gets work done with quality under moderate supervision. The Mechanical Engineer will play a role in a multi-disciplinary project team developing new and innovative solutions for the United States Navy and its partners in the Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) domain.
Key responsibilities
Develop mechanical designs, ensuring compliance against requirements in all operating environments through analysis and testing
Create, review, and approve CAD models, assemblies and their associated drawings and BOMs to applicable standards
Create, review, and approve documentation required to satisfy the project plan
Develop and perform design verification tests involving the measurement of key performance parameters to satisfy product qualification
Develop technical performance specifications and corresponding acceptance testing criteria for sub-contracted work
Work with the project team to successfully deliver solutions that meet the customer’s needs, requirements to cost, quality, and schedule
Work with the manufacturing and production departments to transition designs to production
Ensure mechanical engineering activities are performed in accordance with company process
Occasional travel within the US may be required
Role requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
Self-motivated, adaptable, and attentive to details
Strong communication skills; positive attitude
Candidate must be capable of acquiring a Secret security clearance
Required Skills
1+ years experience developing mechanical systems
Proficiency CAD software – preferable SolidWorks – 3D modeling and mechanical print creation
Ability to design to military standards
Technical data management, including development of technical specifications and corresponding acceptance criteria
Able to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a deadline-oriented environment
Desired Skills
Experience designing components using various fabrication methods (i.e. machining, injection molding, welding, forming…)
Experience developing products in the marine and defense sectors
Experience transitioning a product from design into production
Able to work with and understand the perspectives of other engineering disciplines
Reasoning ability: Ability to define and document complicated problems and relationships, collect and document data, and establish facts by direct conclusions or deductive reasoning
