The Northrop Grumman Microelectronics Center (NGMC) Microelectronics Design & Applications (MDA) Business Area pushes the boundaries of innovation, redefines the leading edge of exotic new technologies, and drives advances in the sciences. One of our most challenging new fields is transformational Computing, which combines the unique properties of superconductivity and quantum mechanics to develop radical, new energy-efficient computing systems. Our team is chartered with providing the skills to transform computing beyond Moore’s Law, advancing development of computer architectures, processing/memory subsystems, and large-scale high-performance computing systems. You’ll work in a fast-paced team environment alongside a broad array of scientists and engineers to make these processing solutions a reality and deliver remarkable new advantages to the warfighter.
The MDA business area is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals who will be responsible for various mechanical design efforts, such as microelectronics packaging design, cryogenic component design, and other related efforts. A Mechanical Design Engineer interfaces with a multidisciplinary set of their engineering peers and technical leads on the program to best understand the desired product. In this role, you will perform the complete product development process, from gathering requirements, developing conceptual and final designs, presenting to internal customers, developing a bill of materials (BOM), overseeing the build of and ultimately managing the configuration of the completed product. You will direct aspects of project design phases, and you should be skilled in the use of the standard design tools, such as 2D CAD platforms (preferably AutoCAD), and 3D CAD platforms (preferably Siemens NX or SolidWorks). You must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.
This position requires work onsite in the Linthicum, MD area or Annapolis Junction, MD offices.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Designing cutting edge mechanical components for use in cryogenic systems and subsystems - interfacing with electrical design counterparts, physicists, thermal and structural analysts, and manufacturing teams throughout the entire project lifecycle
Coordinating with drafting, procurement, manufacturing, and other engineering fields as needed for successful fabrication and delivery of completed products
Maintaining configuration documentation and component supply during product use lifetime
Developing engineering documentation associated with mechanical design and assembly.
Supporting development of analysis/testing of delivered products for design verification to ensure a smooth transition into operation
