ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Assures the capture and billing of all assigned cath lab/EP/ surgical procedures, office based or hospital visits performed by IHC physicians through review of procedure logs and schedules, and review of documentation, and communicates concerns.
· Assigns CPT and ICD-9 coding for procedural billing from procedure documentation; posts all procedure charges in accordance with IHC policies and standards; communicates outstanding charges to management/administration.
· Identifies barriers in timely posting of charges, reporting systems, incomplete or inadequate documentation, and/or compliance concerns and communicates them to department manager. Communicates delinquent physician dictation to clinical manager and IHC administration. Assists in solution-oriented process improvement activities to correct or modify barriers or compliance issues.
· Documents IHC coding interpretation and practices relative to procedure coding; maintains documentation of changes in coding practice.
· Acts as resource to physicians, clinical, insurance and other coding staff. Assists in billing and coding education of IHC physicians and staff.
· Corrects charges posted and identified by insurance denial, or practice management software edits.
· Assists in billing compliance activities such as auditing, monitoring development of billing policies.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
· High School Diploma or equivalent.
· Computer keyboard experience required.
· Successful completion of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology course required.
· Prior experience with CPT/ICD-9 coding and clinical background preferred.
· CPC – AAPC required.
