JOB PURPOSE

The Material and Logistics Supervisor, which reports directly to the Supply Chain Manager, is responsible for leading the teams coordinating and processing all incoming and outgoing shipments for the site across the Noble Metals and Precious Metals Trading. The role provides oversite and development support to the Material and Logistics (M&L) team and works collaboratively with Production and Planning teams on securing appropriate preparations.

Keys to success in the role include providing cost effective support while ensuring documentation is maintained, accurate material weights are captured, system transactions are recorded, and physical materials are moved in a safe and timely manner. Additionally, the role ensures accurate inventory accounting, performing cycle count validations as required, and is a key supporter of the annual fiscal inventory performed on a weekend (typically in the fall). The incumbent also owns responsibility for their department vaults.

The M&L team performs packaging for all products departing the site. The incumbent will benefit from ability to identify packaging solutions to ensure safe transit of goods and materials and maintain inventories of those materials. The site’s product portfolio includes some typical product and packing routings, but also frequent unique items. These include containerized bulk materials of various sizes and weight, manufactured product requiring large crating, custom fabrications requiring custom solutions, and site scrap collection and local recoveries often destined for JM sites in either New Jersey or the United Kingdom for refining (AKA de-alloy). 

The incumbent must have strong ability to ensure appropriate shipping terms are applied to all shipments and that the site adheres to JM’s Incoterms Policy. The role is a key stakeholder for ensuring site customs compliance and procedures by working with the US Customs and Trade Compliance Team. Additionally, the role ensures regulatory compliance is maintained for incoming and outgoing shipments.

The incumbent maintains, enforces, and monitors security procedures as they relate to the secure handling and tracking of precious metals and regularly interacts with the site security team to maintain logistics security.

The incumbent also makes daily inspections of their department and equipment to ensure safe operating conditions and continuous equipment operation through preventative maintenance. Additionally, enabling the team to support safe operations through their daily work is maintained through appropriately supporting staff and safety meetings and departmental walk throughs.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Ensure proper control of all shipment weights are accurately weighed and recorded
  • Support the site OTIF goal by ensuring all orders for which material is available ship as committed and agreed
  • Issue activity reports to the Supply Chain Manager
  • Responsible for weighing and recording vault and area inventories under their ownership
  • Ensure that received materials (product or recycling) are entered into ERP
  • Secure all precious metal material in the vaults at the end of the shift
  • Validates shipping registers on a daily basis
  • Maintains security of vault area in conjuction with security team
  • Maintains customer compliance and retention policies
  • Plays a key role in annual inventory, typically on a Saturday in the fall
  • Assure maximum utilization and efficiency of equipment and hourly personnel to provide the greatest productivity

Requirements for the role:

  • Bachelor’s degree with three to five years’ experience or high school diploma or equivalent with five to seven years’ supply chain operations or logistics experience
  • Strong command of English and the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Must demonstrate skills in leadership, teamwork, planning, organization, problem solving, communications and the ability to learn
