General Summary:

Our Marketing area is hiring a UX Designer II! The Marketing User Experience Designer II is responsible for creating high-quality, user-centered designs and interfaces for public-facing websites and digital tools. This role involves independently producing layouts, mock-ups, prototypes, and visual assets that enhance usability and engagement. The designer collaborates closely with marketing strategists, business SMEs, and technical teams to ensure cohesive, effective digital experiences aligned with business goals. They apply strong understanding of user needs, usability principles, and interaction design best practices, accurately estimate project work, and may mentor junior team members.

Job Specifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, relevant business experience
  • 4+ years of experience designing user experiences and interaction design for rich interactive web sites and/or applications
  • Exceptional user interface and experience design skills and an understanding of user-centered design disciplines and principals, as well as an eye for subtle detail
  • Proven experience designing for multiple devices, such as mobile and tablet
  • Expert using the Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Photoshop, and standard UX software such as Sketch, OmniGraffle, Axure, InVision, UXPin, Balsamiq, Framer, and the like. Basic HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript skills are a plus.
  • A solid understanding of modern web technologies and interaction patterns and experience in designing complex solutions for complete digital environments including mobile-first and responsive design.
  • Clearly demonstrates analytical ability and critical thinking skills
  • Insurance background beneficial
  • Experience in participating on project teams and ability to clearly and effectively communicate design processes, ideas, and solutions to teams and clients.
  • Possess negotiation and influencing skills
  • Ability to resolve issues and conflicts with team members  
  • Possess effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to use communication tools (e-mail, conference call, PowerPoint, Microsoft Office, etc.)
  • Solid listening and comprehension skills.
  • Operates with a sense of urgency to meet tight deadlines.
  • Be passionate about resolving user pain points through great design.
  • Self-starter and detail-oriented, passionate about all things UX and other areas of design and innovation.
  • Research and showcase knowledge in the industry’s latest trends and technologies.
  • Adherence to Accessibility standards and needs.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Partners with department leadership, Marketing Strategists, Project Managers, Front End Development, and subject matter experts to support the development of easy to use and delightful websites, landing pages and other online properties.
  • Independently develops online experiences that will bring an exceptional and consistent user experience across multiple digital platforms that are consistent and reinforcing of the corporate brand.
  • Promote and influence Persona and User Experience led designs
  • Translate concepts into user flows, wireframes, mockups and prototypes that lead to intuitive and excellent user experiences.
  • Facilitate and drive the Product Owner’s vision by researching, conceiving, sketching, prototyping and user-testing experiences for digital products.
  • Design and deliver wireframes, user stories, user journeys, and mockups optimized for a wide range of devices and interfaces.
  • Take a user-centered design approach and rapidly test and iterate your designs.
  • Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders.
  • Mentor User Experience I team members.
  • Ask smart questions, take risks and champion new ideas.
  • Develops pattern and style libraries and keeps them updated and maintained.
  • Creates screen shot mockups and/or prototypes for usability testing and requirements gathering.
  • Ensures that the user experience is applied consistently by overseeing the use of brand guidelines, color, font, icons and other artifacts, and ensures compliance with Accessibility Standards
  • Monitors best practices, trends and new technologies and evaluates them for possible adoption.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.

$73,300.00-$150,500.00

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.  All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
