Manufacturing Technology Engineer – Zhangjiagang Adhesives
Description
We are seeking a highly motivated Manufacturing Technology (MT) Engineer to join the DuPont Adhesives Asia Pacific (AP) team, supporting innovation and operational excellence across our adhesives manufacturing platforms. The Global MT team is accountable for the process technology needed to support the end-to-end manufacture of products at the plant sites. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the commercialization of new products, drive process improvements, and ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective operations in a dynamic, global environment. This role offers an opportunity to work at the intersection of technology and operations, contributing to DuPont’s innovation pipeline and manufacturing excellence in the Asia Pacific region.
The MT role will be located at the Adhesives manufacturing facility in Zhangjiagang, where they will support process optimization and new products in the EV Battery Adhesives space. In addition to plant sites, the DuPont Adhesives business relies on contract manufacturing (CM) to support existing production and new product launches. This role will also have responsibilities supporting and improving CM operations for elastic polyurethane adhesives. The role will work across functions (MT, CM, integrated operations & quality, EH&S, R&D, TS&D, commercial, marketing, and supply chain) to deliver results on projects in alignment with the site and business needs.
Detailed Responsibilities:
Demonstrate sincere personal leadership and accountability by being a role model for core values, business & site goals, and continuous improvement
Core member of the Adhesive MT support staff; helps set the technical direction
Lead and/or be a technical reviewer for manufacturing process changes; expertise with management of change (MOC) work process; lead any scaleup work needed to achieve project goals
Effectively provide technical support for Zhangjiagang and CM operations; assist with and/or lead process upsets, root cause analyses, and continuous improvement projects, working closely to support/mentor/develop run plant, quality, and process engineers.
Team member on new product commercialization framework (NPCF) projects representing manufacturing during early phases through commercialization; plays a lead role in defining and implement manufacturing process(es) to achieve project goals working closely across functions. Ensures a safe and efficient process is handed over to the operations team.
Lead technology plans and basic data development for capital projects; may lead small capital projects or work closely with other engineers to implement. Lead startup efforts for capital projects, following DuPont project process and best practices.
Lead / support the advancement of the process technology; work with Global Technology Guardians & MT Leader to execute the technology roadmap.
Provide technical support for contract manufacturing projects
This position reports to the Global Adhesives MT leader and receives local oversight, training, and guidance from local sites and Global Tech Guardians.
Travel (~25%) is expected depending on project responsibilities (travel to other DuPont sites or external parties such as suppliers and 3rd party engineering provider)
The position is primarily based on AP region, but some global work may be done remotely.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
5 or more years of experience in manufacturing operations and/or capital / improvement projects as a manufacturing representative
Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex process and production issues using a team approach and data driven analysis
A strong desire to apply fundamental knowledge to solve challenging problems
Proven skills with MOC and/or Change of Design (COD)
Demonstrated skills with DCS/MES interface and work to provide function description and guidance for project execution
Experience with new product commercialization including adherence to Product Scale-Up Protocol
Experience with process technology improvements / advancements
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills in English and Mandarin
Strong team player with an ability to work closely with cross functional teams
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with poly urethane chemistry, mixing processes
Experience with capital project planning and execution, including use of the DuPont Project Process and tools such as EcoSys.
Six Sigma green belt (or higher) and/or Lean certified
Experience with plant support (root cause analysis, MOC, COD) and continuous improvement processes (examples: LEAN, Kaizen)
Possess strong interpersonal skills to be an effective team member and have passion to elevate work group for continuous improvement
Familiarity with local regulations, especially around EH&S, manufacturing standards, and supply chain practices
