The Manufacturing Engineering Technician supports Turbo Assembly lines and other production areas, focusing on improving quality, process flow, and automation. This role bridges engineering resources and the production floor, implementing safety, quality, and process improvements. Work scope includes process development, process analysis, and engineering tasks as needed in an effort to improve the quality of production and process flow, and support new production introductions. • Serve as a liaison between engineering and production, assisting with the implementation of safety, quality, and process improvements.
• Coordinate with manufacturing managers, engineers, vendors, and customers to ensure satisfaction and effective communication.
• Support complex department projects, including planning, training, implementation, and documentation of solutions.
• Creates and updates work instructions, first piece sheets, and other production support documentation.
• Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, part vision, and controls issues on assembly lines and complex part balancing equipment.
• Perform test and analyze data to improve department functions and assist with daily manufacturing support.
• Assists the maintenance team when required to perform or coordinate the preventative maintenance or machine repairs on departmental equipment.
• Assists the Department Manager, Production Facilitator, and Engineering with the implementation of new or modified production lines in the department, as well as providing technical support to complex production processes and machinery.
• Work with sensors, actuators, motors, torque drivers, and vision systems to support process automation.
• Assist with installation and upgrades of production equipment, collaborating with equipment suppliers and contractors.
• Works with Manufacturing Tool Design to develop concepts for fixtures, cutting tools and new products.
• Makes recommendations for improving the machining operation, design changes, tooling changes and manufacturing process for cost efficiency.
• Inspects machined parts as necessary using indicators, micrometers, callipers and related devices for optimal accuracy.
• Assists in procurement of new tooling and fixtures.
• Tests and evaluates new programs and perform any necessary edits.
• Works with minimal supervision and manages processes.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, industry regulations, and company policies.
• Document system configurations, troubleshooting guides, and training materials.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and learn new automation technologies.
• Support pre-production and PPAP assembly builds, procurement, and installation of assembly lines and equipment.
• Recommend and implement improvements to manufacturing processes and tooling.
• Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
• Completion of high school or equivalent with courses in machine shop, mechanical drafting, or engineering vocational training is a plus.
• Associate engineering degree from an accredited technical program is preferred.
• Courses or vocational training in electronics, controls, or engineering are a plus.
• 3+ years of experience on a manufacturing floor working with technical issues and material flow.
• Experience working with complex part balancing systems is required.
• Experience with basic statistics is preferred.
• Experience with vision systems (Cognex, Keyence), robotics (Fanuc, ABB, KUKA), and mechatronic systems is preferred.
• A working knowledge of the basic operation of DC Electric Torque Systems, Cognex Vision systems, Fanuc Robots, Servo, Hydraulic, & Pneumatic Presses, Balancing machines, Plasma & TIG Welding systems, and basic assembly processes is preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, electrical schematics, and engineering drawings.
• Proficiency with computers and common software (Windows, MS Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams).
• Strong problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills.
• Willingness to learn and grow in automation and controls.
• Standing, walking, talking, hearing, and using hands/fingers to handle or feel may be required.
• May need to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• May be exposed to moderate heat, light dust, fumes, and occasional adverse weather conditions.
• Adequate hearing protection required for noise levels above 85 decibels.
