Role Overview

The developmental role for Manufacturing Engineer is meant to prepare selected associates for a Manufacturing Engineer position or like position. In this role, you will collaborate closely with senior engineers, production teams, and quality staff to gain practical experience with manufacturing processes, continuous improvement efforts, and production support. This position offers structured exposure to essential skills such as process optimization, equipment and tooling development, lean manufacturing, and project management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process Learning & Support: Assist in developing, documenting, and improving manufacturing processes under the guidance of senior engineers.

  • Production Exposure: Support operators and associates on the shop floor, learning to identify inefficiencies, troubleshoot basic issues, and implement corrective actions.

  • Tooling & Equipment Familiarization: Participate in the design, testing, and maintenance of tools, fixtures, and machines to understand their role in manufacturing efficiency.

  • Quality Involvement: Collaborate with the quality team to perform inspections, collect data, and participate in root cause analysis and corrective actions.

  • Lean & Continuous Improvement Projects: Contribute to small-scale Kaizen events, process improvement activities, and cost reduction initiatives.

  • Safety & Compliance Awareness: Learn and apply manufacturing safety protocols, Develop HRA’s, LOTO’s, understand environmental regulations, and industry standards.

  • Documentation Practice: Assist in preparing process documentation, work instructions, and technical reports.

  • Project Participation: Support new product introduction (NPI) activities and cross-functional projects to understand project management fundamentals.

Desired Skills & Development Areas

  • Technical Aptitude: Exposure to CNC machining, welding, fabrication, assembly, or automation is a plus.

  • CAD/CAM Knowledge: Basic familiarity with design tools such as CREO, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar (training provided)

  • Problem-Solving Mindset: Ability to apply critical thinking and structured methods to process challenges.

  • Continuous Improvement Interest: Eagerness to learn Lean, Six Sigma, and other improvement methodologies.

  • Strong Communication: Willingness to collaborate across teams, document findings, and present ideas clearly.

  • Data Analysis Fundamentals: Ability to work with Excel or similar tools for data collection and basic analysis.

  • Hands-On Engagement: Comfortable working directly with production teams and equipment.

This role is designed as a developmental steppingstone toward a Manufacturing Engineer position. Successful candidates will build competencies in process engineering, project management, and continuous improvement, with increasing responsibility over time.
