Second line of Defense, senior credit executive (SCE) role in Webster Bank’s Commercial & Industrial (C&I) credit organization. The individual will be primarily responsible for oversight of the Public Finance business (as well as any other portfolios assigned to them from time to time). In addition to decisioning new transactions, the individual will be responsible for monitoring asset quality in conjunction with the First Line portfolio manager who maintains primary oversight of the portfolio.

Job Summary:

Second line of Defense, senior credit executive (SCE) role in Webster Bank’s Commercial & Industrial (C&I) credit organization.  The individual will be primarily responsible for oversight of the Public Finance business (as well as any other portfolios assigned to them from time to time).  In addition to decisioning new transactions, the individual will be responsible for monitoring asset quality in conjunction with the First Line portfolio manager who maintains primary oversight of the portfolio.

What you will do:

  • Review and decision pre-screen requests put up by the first line deal teams.  For the Public Finance business, these screens are typically in conjunction with RFPs being responded to by that team

  • Ensure that the teams adhere to the risk appetite of the bank with respect to the line of business (LOB)

  • Review final credit approval memos and decision awarded transactions.  Provide guidance to deal teams on the quality of analysis and content in the approval memos

  • Review and approve annual and periodic reviews, as well as appropriateness of Risk Rating recommendations, in line with Webster policies and procedures

  • Provide inputs during annual reviews of policies and procedures applicable to the business

  • Maintain awareness of key regulations, as well as Webster policies and procedures.  Provide clarifications /guidance to LOBs on related questions

  • Lead any one-off projects relevant to the business that may be assigned from time to time

Key skills/experience qualifications for the role:

  • Minimum 10 years of commercial lending experience including underwriting and/or credit decisioning roles.  Experience of lending in the Public Finance space desirable

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

  • Strong working knowledge of lending

  • Knowledge of banking regulations, as well as policy and procedure framework of a regulated bank

  • Leadership and organizational skills

  • Ability to multi-task and manage changing priorities

The estimated salary range for this position is $200,000USD to $210,000USD. Actual salary may vary up or down depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position is eligible for incentive compensation.
