Shop Manager – Airdrie, AB

Location: Airdrie, Alberta

About the Role:
We are seeking a hands-on and experienced Shop Manager to lead our maintenance operations in Airdrie, AB. The Shop Manager will oversee all aspects of fleet maintenance, supervise shop staff, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards. This role is critical to maintaining the reliability and safety of our school bus fleet and supporting our operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, schedule, and oversee all fleet maintenance activities.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues and coordinate repairs.
  • Supervise and support shop staff, including hiring, training, performance management, and development.
  • Communicate vehicle availability with dispatch and operations teams.
  • Monitor and manage maintenance budgets, repair orders, and vendor invoices.
  • Ensure compliance with Alberta Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations and company policies.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
  • Order parts, manage fuel inventory, and coordinate subcontracted repairs.
  • Lead initiatives to improve shop efficiency and reduce operating costs.
  • Ensure technicians are properly trained, equipped, and motivated.
  • Oversee building and grounds maintenance as needed.
  • Perform hands-on mechanical work when required.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification preferred.
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s Licence (Class 2 with S endorsement preferred).
  • Minimum 5 years of mechanical supervisory experience, preferably in diesel engines and school bus or heavy-duty vehicle maintenance.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with computers and maintenance software.
