The Internal Communications Manager is responsible for developing and executing strategic internal communication plans that align with organizational goals and strengthen internal alignment and culture. This role partners closely with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), Executive Management Group (EMG), Human Resources, Line of Business leaders and cross-functional teams to ensure consistent, clear, and effective messaging across the organization. The manager also works in close collaboration with the External Communications Manager and Marketing team to ensure consistent voice, brand alignment, and coordinated messaging across internal and external channels. This role supports change management, employee engagement, internal community engagement programming, and enterprise-wide initiatives through thoughtful, audience-centered communication strategies.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive internal communication strategies to support organizational goals and employee engagement.
  • Collaborate with SLT, EMG, Human Resources and Lines of Business leaders to translate strategic priorities into clear, actionable messaging.
  • Manage internal communication channels (e.g., intranet, newsletters, email communications) to ensure timely, relevant, and engaging content.
  • In partnership with Human Resources, Learning and Development, and other departments, lead planning and execution of internal campaigns focused on organizational culture, change initiatives, and strategic business objectives.
  • Use change management and communications best practices to create content that informs employees about the goals and objectives of initiatives in ways that advance strategic goals, culture and brand.
  • Support internal crisis communication efforts in coordination with external communications and leadership.
  • Maintain a consistent internal voice that reflects the company’s values, tone, and brand personality
  • Create and edit internal content including announcements, leadership messages, presentations, and employee resources.
  • Monitor and assess the effectiveness of internal communications through feedback, engagement metrics, and continuous improvement. Use data to refine messaging strategies and improve internal communication outcomes.
  • Facilitate cross-departmental meetings and communication efforts to ensure alignment and consistency.
  • Provide guidance and support to team members involved in internal communications projects.
  • Responsible for hiring, staff development, coaching, performance reviews, corrective actions, and termination of employees. Provide feedback, including regular one-on-ones and performance evaluations, for direct reports.
  • Develop annual department budgets. Monitor spending versus the planned budgeted throughout the year and take corrective action where needed.
  • Coordinate business activities by maintaining collaborative partnerships with key departments.
  • Responsible for process improvement and working with other departments to improve interdepartmental processes. Utilize lean methodologies for continuous improvement.
  • Actively participate as a key team member in Manager/Supervisor meetings.
  • Actively participate in various strategic and internal committees in order to disseminate information within the organization and represent company philosophy.

  • Meet department and company performance and attendance expectations.
  • Follow the PacificSource privacy policy and HIPAA laws and regulations concerning confidentiality and security of protected health information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUCCESS PROFILE

Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in internal or corporate communications. Supervisory experience preferred. Experience in health-related field preferred, with a preference towards insurance.

Education, Certificates, Licenses: Bachelor’s degree required. Candidates with an Associate’s degree and 2 years of relevant experience, or a high school diploma and 4 years of relevant experience, in addition to the required minimum years of Work Experience will also be considered. Preferred area of focus: Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, English, Marketing or a related field.

Knowledge: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a strong ability to craft clear, engaging messaging tailored to internal audiences. Proficient in using intranet platforms and digital communication channels to drive effective communication across the organization. Strong project management and organizational abilities, along with the capacity to manage multiple initiatives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Demonstrated success in developing and executing internal communication strategies, along with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments. Strategic thinking and a data-informed approach help shape impactful messaging and drive continuous improvement. Analytical capabilities play a key role in evaluating communication effectiveness and refining tactics to better support organizational goals.

Environment: Work inside in a general office setting with ergonomically configured equipment. Travel is required approximately 10% of the time.
