About the Role:

The CrowdStrike Technical Operations team is seeking an experienced Linux Systems Engineer III to build, monitor and maintain our complex multi-cloud (on premise & public) distributed systems infrastructure with a focus on a rapidly growing third party object store. The ideal candidate will have experience with hybrid cloud 24x7 systems in critical production environments. You'll contribute significantly to the design, development and implementation of a custom S3 compatible object store solution that spans across over 2,000 Linux servers. As an Engineer III, you will work independently on complex technical challenges, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to deliver robust solutions while driving technical excellence within the team.

What You'll Do:

  • Perform advanced Linux engineering and administration for thousands of bare metal and virtual machines with increasing autonomy

  • Design and engineer large-scale cloud environments for clustered object storage solutions while demonstrating proficiency with public cloud and cloud administration concepts

  • Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex server hardware issues while monitoring, maintaining, and optimizing production environments

  • Design and implement automated solutions for routine yet moderately complex tasks using an IaaS model with tools like Chef or Ansible

  • Configure and optimize Linux kernel parameters, file systems, and storage subsystems to maximize object storage performance across diverse hardware configurations

  • Perform advanced troubleshooting of complex network and storage issues using tools like tcpdump, iperf, iostat, and custom monitoring solutions to maintain and improve SLAs and SLOs

  • Develop moderately complex scripts, programs, and automation frameworks for tools, dashboards, and monitoring solutions

  • Collaborate with internal peers and business partners to analyze requirements and design elegant, robust, and reliable solutions to solve technical problems

  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to raising the technical expertise of the team by sharing knowledge of new technologies and best practices

  • Lead technical initiatives and manage project components, tracking progress and coordinating dependencies across teams

  • Proactively monitor project activities and ensure schedules and priorities are met while identifying potential risks

  • Identify, track, and resolve critical issues, escalating appropriately when necessary

  • Represent technical solutions and recommendations to stakeholders across workgroups

  • Participate in on-call rotation with other team members

What You'll Need:

  • 5-7 years of professional experience working on large scale, distributed systems

  • BS degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent work experience)

  • Expertise in Linux internals including virtual memory management, process scheduling, and storage I/O subsystems with proven ability to diagnose and resolve performance issues

  • Proficiency with Linux performance analysis and monitoring tools to proactively identify and resolve system bottlenecks

  • Experience with storage technologies (block and object), including usage of Kubernetes-native, AWS S3-compatible object storage solutions

  • Strong networking fundamentals with hands-on experience in TCP/IP, routing protocols, network security, and data transfer optimization for distributed storage environments

  • Experience with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack) for large-scale monitoring and analysis

  • Some automation experience using Python/Go scripting or Chef configuration management

  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to make sound, timely technical decisions

  • A focus on security when managing systems and developing/reviewing code

  • Passion for documentation and commitment to improving knowledge transfer across teams

  • Proficiency with project and program management tools (e.g.: Jira, Gitlab)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a desire to facilitate cross-team collaboration

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with distributed, cross-functional teams spanning multiple divisions

  • Proactive, solution-oriented attitude that excels both working independently and mentoring others

  • Travel 1-2 business related trips per year for group meetings
