What is the opportunity?

Avion Rewards is an award-winning, internationally recognized loyalty and consumer engagement platform that provides Canadians with the flexibility to shop, save, earn and redeem for everyday merchandise, aspirational rewards and experiences. We are looking to hire a Lead Data Scientist to drive AI initiatives across Avion. The role will be responsible for applying modern AI and data techniques to deliver models and scalable data products that drive business value.

What will you do?

  • Lead the full lifecycle of data science solutions, from understanding business needs, to building and deploying production-ready models.

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather requirements and define use cases for personalization, targeting, and more.

  • Translate business problems into data science solutions with clear metrics and impact.

  • Design, build, and validate ML models to drive personalization across digital channels

  • Develop, test, and deploy models using AWS, SageMaker, S3, Snowflake, and Python.

  • Work closely with data engineers and analysts to build reusable data pipelines and data products in Snowflake.

  • Document models, experiments, and business logic clearly for technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Own projects end-to-end: from ideation through delivery, measurement, and iteration.

  • Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

What do you need to succeed?

Must have:

  • 5–8+ years of experience in applied data science.

  • Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms and techniques.

  • Hands-on experience implementing solutions using modern AI.

  • Advanced proficiency in Python

  • Experience with cloud-based technologies, including AWS and SageMaker

  • Strong SQL skills and familiarity with Snowflake or similar cloud data warehouses.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Ability to think strategically and translate business goals into model objectives.

Nice to have:

  • Experience in a financial services, loyalty, or e-commerce environment.

  • Experience with Agile development methodologies

  • Knowledge of data visualization tools, such as Tableau or Power BI

  • Familiar with JIRA, Confluence, Agile/Scrum development methodology

  • Background in personalization or marketing analytics is a plus.

  • Familiarity with GIT, Airflow, Hadoop, and PySpark

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related field

  • Hands on experience developing GenAI powered solutions
