Job Description:
Lead - Network Traffic Forecasting Automation Software Engineer
Description:
As a Network Traffic Forecasting Automation Software Engineer, you will design and develop 5G AT&T Mobility traffic forecasting analytics and automation platforms. These platforms support the planning and dimensioning of AT&T networks, including Radio Access Network (RAN), core, mobility transport, and wireline infrastructure. You will contribute to the development and optimization of systems that analyze, predict, and automate network traffic flows, ensuring efficient resource allocation and proactive network management.
Required Skills:
- Mobility/RAN Systems Analysis & Automation:
Experience in analyzing and architecting mobility and RAN systems, with a focus on automation development. Proficiency in Java/J2EE, Angular, Spring MVC, ORM/Hibernate, SQL/RDBMS, and microservices web app development. Skilled in designing RESTful services and leveraging Azure CI/CD pipelines for continuous integration and deployment. - Geolocation Analytics Tools:
Hands-on experience with geolocation tools such as ArcGIS, Google Maps API, or HERE Location Services to visualize, analyze, and optimize network coverage, site selection, and traffic distribution. Ability to integrate geospatial analytics into network planning and forecasting applications. - Data Engineering & Visualization:
Strong background in data engineering, including building ETL pipelines, data modeling, and analytics visualization using tools like Palantir or Power BI. Proficiency in developing and consuming APIs, as well as exposure to AI/ML algorithms, Python, and Apache Spark for predictive analytics and traffic modeling. - Cloud-Native & Agile Development:
Familiarity with cloud-native architectures, Agile development practices, and Model Driven Design (MDD) for orchestration and modeling of network automation solutions.
Desired Skills:
- ONAP/ORAN SDK:
Working knowledge of ONAP and ORAN SDK components. For example, experience using the ORAN Software Development Kit to develop and test RAN automation applications, integrate with RIC (RAN Intelligent Controller) platforms, or create xApps/rApps using open interfaces and APIs. Familiarity with ONAP orchestration for end-to-end network automation. - Advanced RAN Automation:
Experience developing distributed RAN automation solutions with AI/ML and GenAI models, such as traffic prediction, anomaly detection, and self-optimizing networks. - Traffic Demand Forecasting:
Understanding of RAN and Core Traffic Demand Forecasting processes, and familiarity with AT&T's RAN and core network topology. - Data Engineering Platforms:
Experience working with data platforms such as Palantir, Snowflake, Oracle, and PostgreSQL for large-scale data processing and analytics.
Business Impact:
The quarterly mobility traffic demand forecasts generated by platforms like mForecast and mSite are essential for guiding multi-billion-dollar investments in AT&T’s mobility network. These forecasts support:
- Capacity planning for RAN and Core networks
- Planning for new marketing offers, services, and applications
- Strategic capital allocation for network investments
These insights help identify lines of business, markets, device groups, and cell sites where changes in traffic demand are anticipated over the next decade.
Ongoing automation and platform enhancements ensure timely and accurate forecasting deliverables that adapt to evolving network technologies and methodologies, supporting AT&T’s leadership in network innovation.
