Lab Operations Technician, Scaling

MX - Tijuana (Office) Full time

Position Overview

This position will report to the Laboratory Operations Manager in Acton, MA, USA and will be primarily responsible for supporting day-to-day lab operations and engineering teams in Tijuana, MX. The main objectives of this position are to ensure smooth operation of multi-user laboratories, prepare mission critical equipment, and promote a safe work environment among lab users. This position requires close cooperation with members of the engineering, IT and facilities teams to accomplish organization objectives. 

Responsibilities

  • Supports equipment management, monthly calibration and preventative maintenance to ensure equipment availability 

  • Provides or supports organization of training, guidance, and assistance to personnel on use of lab equipment 

  • Ensures laboratory cleanliness, storing materials in designated areas or properly disposing in accordance with lab guidelines 

  • Actively supports safe working environment and promotes culture of safety in the lab settings 

  • Maintains inventory of personal protective equipment, consumable materials,  chemicals storage, and Safety Data Sheets on all chemicals in lab     

  • Assists with lab improvement projects 

  • Performs or supports execution of small repairs as directed 

  • Performs other duties as necessary 

Required Skills and Competencies

  •  Understanding of basic manual assembly, test, and quality assessment techniques. 

  •  Impacts own team through the quality of own work, services or information provided 

  • Uses standard operating procedures to guide own work and solve routine problems 

  • Communicates information that requires some explanation or interpretation, typically within own team / department 

  • Proficient in Office Software and basic technical documentation 

  • Familiar with SAP ERP software for inventory and procurement tracking (preferred) 

  • Applies GDP principles consistently in recordkeeping 

  • Demonstrates growing independence in executing routine lab tasks 

  • Completes safety training and identifies basic safety risks 

  • Builds relationships with engineering staff and vendors 

  • Manages time effectively with supervision and prioritizes tasks 

  • Able to lift 20 lbs and handle lab equipment safely 

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma and 2+ years experience working in a laboratory environment; or 

GED and 6+ years experience working in a laboratory environment; or

Associates degree and 0-2 years experience working in a laboratory environment 

Additional Qualifications

  • The position is in-person at our Tijuana, MX site

  • Professional working English language proficiency (preferred B2; minimum B1)

  • U.S. visa (B1/B2) may be required for occasional business travel to training or workshops

  • Off-hour availability for critical issues
