Sandvik

Internship – Digital Innovation

Germany, Erkrath Full time

Are you curious, creative, and eager to see your ideas come to life? This is your chance to bridge engineering, software, and innovation in a global industrial context.

Background

At Seco, we don’t just make cutting tools – we’re shaping the future of manufacturing. As a global leader in advanced machining solutions, we combine cutting-edge tools with digital innovation to transform the industry.

Within our Digital Offer & Innovation organization, we explore new concepts and business models that redefine how machining solutions are experienced and delivered to customers globally. This internship puts you at the heart of that transformation — working with Virtual Reality (VR), image analysis, and AI to create immersive, intelligent customer experiences.

You’ll work alongside experts shaping the future of industrial manufacturing, with the freedom to innovate, prototype, and test real-world applications that could scale across Sandvik Group’s Machining business area.

Project Scope
We aim to make our digital solutions more immersive, intelligent, and accessible, and your overall mission is to explore how these solutions can enhance customer understanding, engagement, and decision-making in machining.

Your main project will be to develop a VR proof of concept that lets users explore machining environments — such as Innovation Hubs, tool management setups, and production lines – in a fully virtual space.

You’ll also contribute to a secondary AI initiative focused on image annotation and model improvement for machining-related visual data. This supports our long-term efforts in AI-driven tool recognition and wear analysis.

As part of the Digital Offer & Innovation team, you’ll:

  • Develop and test VR prototypes using available tools and hardware.
  • Support ongoing initiatives in immersive experiences and applied AI.
  • Annotate machining-related images and help improve AI models (e.g., data labeling, validation, testing).
  • Explore how AI and XR can merge to create smarter, more interactive experiences.
  • Share insights and ideas in team meetings.
  • Prepare presentations, prototypes, and reports summarizing your findings.

Location

Erkrath, Germany, with occasional travel and virtual collaboration across global teams.
