What is the opportunity?

As a Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) for the Ontario North & East (ONE) Region, you will provide strategic advice and counsel to the ONE Regional President and leadership team on all aspects of human resources (HR) including talent and workforce management, leadership development, employee engagement, performance management, rewards and recognition, employee relations, diversity, organizational design and change management. In alignment with RBC HR People & Culture Strategy, you will focus on:

Reporting to the Vice-President HR for Regional Banking, you will not only be the Head of HR in ONE but also a key member of the Regional Banking Senior Management Team leading shared national priorities and, ultimately, supporting the business goals of the Personal & Commercial Banking platform.

What will you do?

  • Advance and execute the RBC HR strategic objectives, balancing the national people & culture priorities with the specific HR needs of the Region; Integrate HR disciplines to develop and execute a compelling people and talent strategy for the Region
  • Provide direct guidance on all aspects of talent and workforce management to ensure the Region meets its in-year growth plan through the most effective use of talent and resources, while developing a strong and diverse succession pipeline for the future
  • Advise on strategies to source and retain critical talent
  • Drive the employee listening strategy in the Region, staying close to employees and leaders’ needs through regular market visits and roundtables ; Also drive the Employee Opinion Survey action planning efforts in the Region to continuously sustain and increase employee engagement
  • Ensure employee development needs are identified, differentiated by segment and acted upon through developmental assignments or appropriate learning interventions; lead in assessing and strengthening leadership depth and employee capability through support of integrated leadership programs, development opportunities and learning.
  • Provide direct coaching to senior leaders and drives people manager excellence throughout the Region
  • In collaboration with partners, provide leaders on complex people-related matters, such as low performance management, employee relation or safety and soundness issues
  • Contribute to the evolution of compensation-related programs and drive the annual year-end processes using sound knowledge of role-based compensation plans and HR policies and practices to support good governance and create optimal outcomes; embed and promote the total rewards philosophy and approach
  • Play a critical role at the Region’s Senior Management Team table, working with Regional President and Regional Office in the creation and execution of business strategies
  • Advise business leaders on potential HR contributions, solutions, implications and risks of proposed business initiatives or market transformations as well as new HR-driven programs
  • Collaborate with HRVP and HRBP peers supporting Regional Banking to develop and execute national HR strategies; share learnings and provide feedback on local experiences to improve overall approaches over time
  • Ensure compliance of HR related matters for the Region based on regulatory requirements and internal policies, procedures and standards; Ensure the Region is adhering to all applicable legislation and policies related to employee matters.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Undergraduate degree or diploma.
  • 5+ years’ experience in Human Resources including talent management, leadership development, workforce planning and compensation.
  • Prior business experience as a sales advisor or leader (Retail and/or Commercial)
  • Ability to prioritize high volume; competing priorities for multiple stakeholders and in turn deliver balance of advice and counsel with strong execution capabilities.
  • Ability to understand, assess and respond to complex situations and provide strategic solutions.
  • Strong relationship management capabilities including the ability to impact & influence senior leaders and partner with others with radical candor and an inclusive mindset
  • Strong business acumen and consultative orientation

Nice-to -have

  • Experience working in a matrixed environment in diverse roles. Preference for experience within National Office and or Regional Banking and or Regional Office
