HPC Data Center Technician

The Job
The HPC Data Center Technician will monitor and manage power, cooling capacity, and environmental conditions in the data center. Act as a first responder to incidents that arise within the data center envelope. This position will manage workflow for planned and unplanned data center work to ensure timely completion and ensure processes adhere to federal and local safety laws and policies.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the daily operation of the data center from a service delivery perspective
- Utilize, understand, and evaluate data received from the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and Building Monitoring System (BMS) to monitor infrastructure health and the effectiveness of planned and unplanned maintenance.
- Coordinate the preventive maintenance of data center electrical and mechanical equipment and manage communication of such activities with internal and customer stakeholders.
- Assist with the development, revision, and execution of operating procedures and preventive maintenance inspections and perform quality control reviews to ensure accuracy, clarity, and continual improvement.
- Resolve all electrical and mechanical issues within the data center promptly, minimizing risk and effectively communicating issues to leadership.
- Respond to emergencies and critical issues as necessary (independently and as a team), according to staffing and the situation, to achieve complete recovery.
- Gather data and readings, troubleshoot and document technical issues, escalate as appropriate, and ensure issue resolution.
- Maintain accurate facility data, including rounds, preventive maintenance (PM) work orders, change incidents, and problem management.
- Develop and maintain documentation alongside operating procedures and facility data to create value-add metrics for both Core Scientific and our customers
- Maintain strict adherence to change control activities and assist in improving systems.
- Work effectively with outside contractors and ensure they abide by critical facility work and safety rules.
- Participate regularly in facility training, safety, and compliance programs.
- Participate in construction and commissioning as the Core Scientific Construction team directs.
- Maintain a clean and debris-free facility, overseeing property management tasks such as facility rounds at the beginning of each shift, janitorial services, and landscaping.
- Foster open, respectful, and professional communication directly within the team, with co-workers/ teammates, and leaders across the organization.

Qualifications
- A high school diploma/GED is required. A degree in a related field or a technical certification is preferred.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience working in a data center environment is required.
- Technical knowledge of systems such as electrical distribution, emergency/standby power, HVAC, fire protection, UPS systems, floor PDUs, rack PDUs, CRAH units, and monitoring and control systems (BMS/CMMS) is required.
- Proficiency in algebraic math computations is required.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
- Understanding networking hardware and software, including routers, switches, and protocols, is preferred.
- Ability to write reports and understand schematic and architectural drawings is required.
- Strong communication skills are required.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other standard software programs is required.

Work Environment
This position operates in a data center environment. This role routinely utilizes standard data center equipment, including laptop computers, smartphones, voltmeters, scissor lifts, forklifts, ladders, screwdrivers, and other hand tools. While performing these duties, the employee will be exposed to hot and cold environments.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands, and lift up to 50 pounds.
