Job Summary: The Housekeeping Aid Work Leader works within Environmental Management Service (EMS) at the Dayton VA Medical Center (VAMC), Dayton, Ohio. The purpose of this position is to lead a wide variety of duties of the Sanitation Section of Environmental Management Service (EMS), leading WG-1, WG-2 Housekeeping Aids, and various Compensated Work Therapy Patients.

Major Duties:

  • Duties include: Lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 pounds and occasionally objects over 50 pounds. Performs for extended periods of time while standing, stooping, or lifting. Provides guidance and directs the work of assigned employees, evaluates completed work. Consistently follows infectious control protocol to include but not limited to: Hand washing, personal hygiene, and following universal precautions. Operates and cleans industrial type power cleaning equipment including burnishers, buffing machines, auto scrubbers, vacuum cleaners, ride on scrubbers. Resolve problems during the completion of work in accordance with instructions, policies, previous training, or accepted practices in the occupation. Routinely assists in planning, coordinating and scheduling employees to ensure all assigned areas receive adequate coverage. Routinely assists in the maintenance of current and accurate records including but not limited to: quality reporting, CMR inventory, employee training and daily reports. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The position requires periods of long standing, bending, crouching and walking. Employee pushes carts that can weigh up to 200-300 lbs. Moving and lifting of equipment that can range in weight between 80 and 200 lbs. Requires considerable stooping and bending. Should be able to use a computer for data entry and use a hand truck. Tension and stress are induced by the critical nature of producing work results on a pre-established time frame as well as in emergent situations. May be required to transport documents and patient care items throughout the facility, either hand carried or pushing a delivery cart. Must be able to maneuver in a tight work area. Must be able to make quick judgments and take fast action in emergent situations. Must maintain an active driver's license and insurance in order to operate government trucks and TMS training. Working Conditions: Working conditions such as ventilation and environment are satisfactory. Incumbent may be subject to occasional noise, skin irritations, cuts and bruises. The work performed requires continuous walking when making inspections in various areas. When performing cleaning tasks, moderated effort is expended. Must have a through knowledge of specialized cleaning and sanitation techniques, materials and equipment in order to assist in the training of employees. While performing snow removal operations, will be exposed to the cold and wind outdoors for prolonged periods of time.
