Hematology Operations Manager - Marketing

The Hematology Squad has a robust product portfolio and a corresponding broad internal and external customer universe, inclusive of two collaboration partners (AbbVie and Biogen). The Hematology Squad shapes the U.S. Commercial, Medical, and Genentech Public Affairs and Access (CMG) strategy for our current Hematology portfolio, and pipeline assets nearing US Commercialization. This network designs, executes and delivers on the strategy's priorities and outcomes to further strengthen Genentech’s position in malignant hematology. The Hematology Operations and Administration team is part of the Commercial Portfolio Organization Operations and Administrative function and supports the Hematology Squad in designing, delivering, and supporting the business, people and Network as they deliver on their ambitions and intended outcomes. Delivering on the vision and ambitions of the Hematology Squad to meet the needs of patients and other customers will require strategic and coordinated operations across multiple stakeholders.

The Hematology Operations Manager operates as an associate counterpart to the Chief of Staff and Director of Administration & Operations, serving as a cross-functional execution partner with broad visibility and impact. This function-agnostic role spans Commercial, Medical, Access, and other Portfolio functions, supporting the pull-through and implementation of high-priority business initiatives enabling leadership to deliver on cross-functional priorities with precision and speed. In addition to simplifying operations, driving alignment, and building scalable processes across the evolving and matrixed organization of the Hematology Network, this role balances strategic breadth with executional depth, requiring comfort with ambiguity and strong organizational acumen. While not a formal leadership role, it provides indirect influence and hands-on operational execution across business-critical initiatives. The role is suited for a high-performing individual contributor ready to operate closely with senior leadership and scale cross-functional efforts. The Hematology Operations Manager, alongside the Administrative Business Partners, acts as a pivotal "builder" and "connector," serving as the central hub of the Squad and Network alongside the Chief of Staff and Director of Hematology Operations and Administration. 

Key Accountabilities: 

Operations will play a critical and accountable role in executing and delivering people and business priorities in service of Hematology, CPO, and CMG, including but not limited to:  internal communication campaigns, launch excellence, and executing engagement strategies across the US affiliate and CMG organization in collaboration with our Hematology Squad, admin/ops team and various functional partners in the Hematology network. In this role you will:

  • Serve as the right-hand execution lead to the Hematology Operations and Administration Director, as well as the Hematology squad and network
  • Partner with Hematology Operations Director to act as conduit for field and home office connection and collaboration. Manage and execute coordination of touch points through various field activation teams and councils.
  • Orchestrate and execute network meetings (i.e. Network calls, Commercial field calls, National field meetings, etc.)
  • In close partnership with Hematology Operations Director, develop and execute on engagement strategies to further develop culture

Communication & Engagement:

  • Execute and coordinate a multi-channel communication strategy that supports vision strategy and network engagement, primarily focused on home office to field communications and engagement
  • Execute and coordinate development communications and execute on tactics associated with network communications strategy. Includes partnering with stakeholders across the Hematology network to prepare and send strategic communications to a variety of audiences and stakeholders.
  • Lead and participate in the planning and execution of Hematology deliverables for the network such as therapeutic area meetings, NFM, and ad hoc requests associated with  network engagements.
  • Leverage local and CMG affiliations and identify, celebrate and promote a culture that fosters 1) inclusive team experience, 2) patient- and customer-centered culture, 3) enterprise thinking, and 4) teamwork and collaboration across local department, network and CMG

General Project Management:

  • Manage and lead the execution of Hematology congresses and advocacy programs, including funding and tactical planning, project management of presence at congresses and advocacy events, developing relationships with society and advocacy staff (eg ASH, NCCN, SOHO, LLM, etc.) 
  • Deliver consistent and high quality project management services to enable team and project success by being strategic in project planning, team management and process management.
  • Support key stakeholders and leaders in cross-functional and/ or portfolio-level and/or Squad project teams and initiatives; helping the overall business of Genentech to continuously evolve, improve and excel.
  • Executes on operations initiatives, can serve to influence and champion programs or ideas across CMG, and is influential in coaching and collaborating with senior leadership to achieve objectives.
  • Provide operational support for customer- or patient-focused business priorities and lead team to support these efforts as well

Outcomes/CMG Strategic Initiatives Champion:

  • Partner across local operations network to ensure effective and coordinated customer and employee experience
  • Collaborate with network operations partners to meet portfolio business needs
  • Be steward of CMG Mission and Operating Principles

Processes and Procedures:

  • Lead the tactical planning process and subsequent budget management for all external Heme engagements, including but not limited to congresses and advocacy programs
  • Contribute to fit-for-purpose business/financial planning and people practices
  • Execute on planning for and facilitation of meetings; contribute to agenda development, meeting facilitation with a focus on adopting agile practices, and capture and follow-up on action items as needed
  • Execute on improvement and innovation strategies or proposals to support the overall objectives and long-term goals of the organization

  • Planning skills: from meta to micro. The capability to create and deliver such things as great meeting and communication plans, statements of work, estimates, timelines, resource plans, briefs, summaries, and contracts is critical. The capability to find ways to do all that you need to do as well and as efficiently as possible is paramount.

Who You Are: 

Minimum Candidate Qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent is required
  • 5 or more years’ project or operations management experience, at least some of which has been gained in the pharmaceutical industry with particular emphasis/exposure to access, commercial and medical functions and teams
  • Excellent organizational skills (attention to detail, handling and prioritization of multiple priorities, managing tight timelines)
  • Project management experience including responsibilities for leading multiple projects simultaneously, involving cross-functional teams and internal and external stakeholder management
  • Demonstrable experience effectively planning complex projects, incorporating best-practices, stakeholder, risk and change management, specifying resource requirements and potential constraints
  • Strong communication skills, both in writing and through presentation
  • Ability to connect with people at all levels in a professional and mature manner
  • Comfort with ambiguity and shifting priorities; adapt and respond to changes in a positive and thoughtful manner

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $111,800 – $207,600 USD Annual.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.  This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
