The Role…

At Soho House, the Head of Membership & Communications will be responsible for driving member recruitment and retention during the pre-opening phase and beyond. Overseeing the local membership team and all aspects of the member experience, including member events, member operations and all member communications.

A successful Head of Membership & Communications recognizes that inter-departmental partnership and collaboration within the House is essential to creating the engaging atmosphere that our members enjoy. The Head of Membership & Communications is responsible for gathering feedback and driving appropriate actions to foster consistency and necessary improvements.

The Head of Membership & Communications will report to the General Manager of Soho House Portland with a dotted line to the Head of Membership and Communications for the West Region working collaboratively to ensure we recruit creative, quality members and retain the “magic” throughout our Houses.

Main Duties…

  • Manage membership and member events managers to create a cohesive creative environment under the centralized vision of the General Manager of the House
  • Responsible for driving membership acquisition, retention, and the member experience, including hosting member events, and overseeing member communications within the House
  • Build and maintain committee for the House, ensuring all committee members are productive in generating quality member applications
  • Engage in the local creative scene, attending events, and developing contacts to build awareness about the House, membership, and our community
  • Drive content collection in conjunction with the membership team to deliver through our member digital platforms
  • Create competencies for the membership team, identifying areas of opportunity and training needs
  • Partner with the General Manager to meet annual membership targets
  • Oversee scheduling for all direct reports to ensure there is full support on the floor across the House during key times
  • Participate in weekly Head of Department meetings for the site
  • Maintain a constant presence in the House, acting as the face of the House to members
  • Gather actionable feedback about the House and member experience to foster inter-departmental solutions and improvements
  • Play an active role in the creation and implementation of the members events programming, ensuring that events are well planned, communicated, and executed
  • Attend members events including new member inductions, fostering experiences that maintain the Soho House magic and promote member engagement

Requirements/ Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years management experience with a proven track record of leading a professional, efficient, high quality, service-oriented operation
  • A long-term city resident with extensive knowledge of the local area
  • Strong organizational, delegation and management abilities
  • Ability to work effectively under time constraints and deadlines
  • Approachable, consummate professional with a solution-oriented approach
  • Masterful written and oral communication skills
  • Culturally aware, with finger on the pulse
  • Flexible schedule and ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays
