Mission Summary:

Motional is seeking a highly experienced and strategic leader to serve as the Head of Internal and Corporate Communications as part of the Communications & Marketing team. This new role is responsible for developing and executing a unified communications strategy that strengthens our internal culture, ensures employee alignment with the company's mission and values, and proactively manages Motional’s corporate reputation globally.

You will directly contribute to Motional’s mission to make autonomous vehicles a safe, reliable, and accessible reality by sharing the company’s narrative and news with employees and key external stakeholders - including media, business partners, regulators and advocacy groups.

This role will include a direct working partnership with the HR and Talent Acquisition teams to collaborate on recruiting and employee retention efforts, including developing communications strategies and support to enhance the employee experience.

The position reports into the Director of Communications & Marketing, and will work closely with the team members responsible for Marketing, Brand, Events, Content and Creative Production.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead Employee Communications Strategy: Design, implement, and manage a strategic internal communications roadmap that ensures all employees—across engineering, operations, and corporate functions—understand Motional’s strategic priorities, performance, and culture.
  • Collaboration with Human Resources (HR): Partner closely with HR leadership on change management initiatives (e.g., organizational redesigns, policy rollouts), cultural campaigns (DEI, engagement surveys), and critical employment lifecycle communications.
  • Executive & Leadership Support: Serve as communications counsel for the CEO and Executive Leadership Team. This could include drafting company-wide emails, speeches, internal memos, and preparing content for town halls and internal video addresses.
  • Executive Messaging: Develop strategic external messaging on corporate issues, key news and announcements, partnerships (e.g., Hyundai, Uber) and organizational milestones.
  • Proactive Issue Management: Anticipate and address potential corporate reputation risks related to regulation, public policy, legal and industry trends before they escalate.
  • Crisis Communications & Readiness: Develop, maintain, and stress-test the company’s global crisis communications plan. Serve as a core member of the Incident Response Team, managing external and internal messaging during high-stakes situations.
  • Media & Community Relations (Corporate Focus): Manage proactive and reactive media engagement on corporate topics, including leadership announcements, partnerships and policy positions.

What we're looking for:

  • Minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in corporate communications, public relations, or internal communications, with at least 3 years spent in a senior leadership role.
  • Previous experience in high-growth technology, automotive/mobility, or a heavily regulated industry is strongly preferred. Experience managing communications for a global organization is a significant plus.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing complex, high-visibility corporate crises involving media scrutiny and executive risk.
  • Ability to advise C-suite executives with confidence, clarity, and diplomacy.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex business objectives into clear, compelling communication strategies.
  • The demonstrated ability to quickly grasp highly complex engineering and technological concepts and translate them into clear, accessible, and strategic narratives for external stakeholders (media, partners) and non-technical internal teams (HR, Finance, Executive Leadership).
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft executive-level communications under tight deadlines.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.

Bonus points (not required):

  • Ability to travel
  • Korean language fluency
  • AI or autonomous vehicle technology company experience
  • Experience working with a mixed exemption status workforce
