About the role

This role leads Challenger’s Group & Corporate Risk team and plays a key part in shaping and delivering strategic risk initiatives. You’ll work closely with the General Manager, Operational Risk & Compliance and collaborate across corporate functions including Finance, Technology, Legal, and Investor Relations.

You’ll engage regularly with senior stakeholders across the business, including executive leaders and board committees, providing trusted advice and clear, actionable reporting. Your work will influence decision-making at the highest levels, particularly in relation to operational risk and compliance frameworks and systems including risk appetite, third party risk management and technology risk management.

With a strong focus on uplift, culture, and continuous improvement, this role offers high visibility and impact across the organisation.

Some key responsibilities will include

  • Designing, maintaining and improving fit-for-purpose operational risk and compliance frameworks

  • Embed technology risk oversight and improve usability of Archer (GRC system)

  • Support implementation and embedding of regulatory change, including CPS230 and climate risk

  • Provide risk and compliance advisory support to corporate functions

  • Prepare reporting for executive, board, committee and regulator audiences

What you’ll bring

We’re looking for a pragmatic and adaptable risk professional who thrives on partnering with the business, brings a solutions-focused mindset, and is passionate about driving meaningful change through strong stakeholder engagement.

You’ll have a wealth of operational risk experience combined with strong leadership and senior stakeholder management skills.  You’ll bring fresh thinking to operational risk—balancing risk and compliance with commerciality and challenging existing ways of working to drive stronger outcomes.

As well as

  • 7–10+ years’ experience in risk, compliance, or audit roles

  • Strong understanding of financial services regulatory frameworks (CPS230 etc.)

  • Experience with GRC systems (Archer or similar)

  • A strong people leader, who empowers and enables their teams to develop and thrive.

  • Pragmatic, solutions-focused mindset with strong stakeholder skills

  • Ability to influence, coach, and collaborate across diverse teams

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment

  • Exposure to or interest in applying AI in risk management to automate and enhance processes
