Job Description

About General Motors

At a time of accelerating change, General Motors is leading with agility and efficiency while driving innovation and choice across our compelling lineup of vehicles. GM offers both a broad portfolio of EVs built on our proprietary battery platform and a diverse family of market-leading gas and diesel cars, trucks, and SUVs.

Building on a century of automotive expertise, GM is leveraging software, hardware, AI, and sensors to produce safer, smarter, and cleaner vehicles. We’re developing advanced driver assistance and autonomous vehicle technology to eliminate human driving error, save lives, and improve mobility for everyone.

We're driving American jobs, technological progress, and global manufacturing excellence. GM plays a cornerstone role in the global economy, with more assembly plants in the U.S. than any other automaker and over 150,000 employees, 90,000 of them in the U.S.

About the Role
General Motors is seeking a strategic and hands-on Head of Editorial Platforms to oversee the digital ecosystem for GM’s owned editorial properties — including GM News and other brand storytelling sites. This role will define and evolve how GM shows up through content—bringing together audience growth, SEO/SEM excellence, UX innovation, and editorial creativity to strengthen GM’s reputation as a leader in technology, design, and the future of mobility.

The ideal candidate brings together storytelling instincts and analytical precision. You’ll partner across communications, marketing, and digital experience teams to ensure GM’s content not only tells powerful stories but also performs—reaching and engaging the right audiences across search, social, and emerging AI-driven discovery platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee GM’s editorial sites and content platforms, including GM News and related brand publishing channels.

  • Develop and implement SEO and SEM strategies to drive discoverability, engagement, and authority for GM’s stories and announcements.

  • Define and execute audience growth strategies, leveraging analytics, insights, and distribution best practices to expand reach across owned and earned channels.

  • Partner with UX and digital teams to evolve site architecture, improve user journeys, and enhance accessibility and performance.

  • Create and operationalize editorial processes that streamline planning, publishing, and performance tracking across internal teams and agency partners.

  • Lead integrated content strategies that align with communications, brand, and marketing initiatives—ensuring cohesive storytelling across channels.

  • Spearhead new editorial initiatives, such as video series, podcasts, and interactive content experiences that highlight GM’s innovation, culture, and leadership.

  • Drive optimization for AI and LLM discovery, ensuring GM’s content is structured and surfaced effectively across emerging platforms.

  • Implement AI tools and features across both workflows and site development.

  • Analyze performance data to inform strategy, share insights with stakeholders, and continually optimize content and platform investments.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience in digital editorial, content strategy, or platform management—preferably in the automotive, technology, or innovation sectors.

  • Deep expertise in SEO/SEM, UX principles, and audience development.

  • Proven experience managing content platforms, CMS systems, and cross-functional publishing workflows.

  • Understanding of structured data, content tagging, and optimization for AI/LLM platforms.

  • Strong storytelling and editorial judgment with the ability to deliver expert eidotiral guidance across formats and audiences.

  • Demonstrated success launching and scaling new editorial or content marketing programs.

  • Strong analytical mindset and comfort working with data and KPIs to inform decisions.

  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
